I still think we should check out the patent for expiration then find us a Chicago man to hunt down the jigs and tools. I'll set up shop and build those suckers. I'm already in negotiations with a transformer engineer to wind high-quality iron for my amps, so why not a tonewheel manufactory?

I understand the Hamm rep being rude a little bit, when people ask
about my ex wife(B3), I get a little offended because I have a new
wife(New B3). I`m just hoping he was referring "people like you" to
mean hobbyist as opposed to being a institution. I think it`s us

do just about anything for a one hundred pound B3 with tonewheels and

Hi Randy,
Have a look through the Hamtech Archives, I remember reading about the
patents awhile ago, I also remember somthing about most of the tooling
equipment beeing destroyed.
I'll poke around the WWW and see what I can find.

Okay Casey and all the rest of you guys..

What do you think a B-3 that is still in the original carton should be worth. The carton has never been opened. I am very
serious. It is for sale. I believe it was built in 1973. Serial number of the B-3 is 365127 If you can think of a serious buyer,
please contact me.

Thanks, Ron. Loss of the tooling is an inconvience more than anything. I know some of the zoners have been around a long time and have known some of the Hammond workers and engineers. A check of those remaining sources may turn up something also. Nonetheless, Ron, if I see the patents are clear, I just may take action to secure them then figure out how to put it together. It'll take many prople and lot's of work and it won't pay anything. But that's OK. It's about keeping parts alive for our rigs. I'll start searching. Thanks.

Hey Raul!

If we find anything still alive around Chicago, I can go pick it up. I'm
only a few hours away.

As far as tooling, what would there have really been? Are Tonewheels
die-stamped? I haven't seen one out of its TG in so long I don't remember.
There were probably stamping and forming dies for the TG and Pre-Amp
chassis', but that's not really required. Maybe lathe patterns for legs and
cabinet-piece templates, too. If we do a custom cabinet, we wouldn't need
those.

I don't think we want to repro the entire line, just B-3's, right? Well,
maybe ALL the TG's used from about '34-'74, AO-28's, AO-15331's.

Oh yeh! Molds for keys, Drawbar knobs, Vibrato knobs, Vibrato Scanner pieces
would be nice, huh?

Hmmmmmm...

You know Raul that sounds like a splendid idea,BUT,would they buying public
think so.I think everyone here would agree that it would be fantastic to do
such a thing but would they sell. After all this would be a serious venture
which would at some point have to support itself.Just the capital required to
purchase the jigs and other critical manufacturing goods would be
substantial.

just thinkin.....can you smell the smoke.......jeff

No,are you kidding. How rare would that be if this is true.I'd say name your
price. Some high dollart collector would snap it up.Certainly not me
though. But i'd like to look at it just to say "I saw brand new 1973 B3".

This is a pretty amazing find. !!!!!!!!!

Laddie,

Where was this found.In a warehouse ????

Ken,

Regarding the tonewheels,i don't know if they were stamped even if they were
you would do it that way today.I have a friend that owns a laser cutting
business. He can cut anything, any size ANY shape. As long as a good
dimensioning is done his programmers can duplicate anything. All work is
cad/cam and is good enough for goverment work.

just my 2 1/2 cents......jeff

Randall Bush

There you go, Jeff. And once the programming and setup costs are out of the way, each piece would be cheap to make.

Truthfully, I don't know.
He has had the B3 in a box for some time and is an aftermarket Hammond/Organ dealer in Orlando, Florida.
He has used it to promote his business, but is moving his business. He will probably put it
on e-bay, but to sell it for the best realistic price to his advantage. He asked me what I thought
it was worth in the market and I told him I was not sure, but that I would ask around. He is
a business man who has a good reputation, but runs his business every day.. I am retired, so
I have time to ask (stupid) questions and collect answers. I also own two Hammonds and might even
buy a third if my wife doesn't put her foot down. I just am interested in what fellow Hammond owners
and lovers think the "right person" would pay for a brand new tone-wheel B3S?

I think so too. The "name your price...I think used to be a joke, because he wanted it more than anybody.
Now, that he is going to move and has capital needs, it is seen as a cash flow producer. What he really
wants is a conscensus on the max dollar possible.. like where should he set the reserve???

Here's the 64 thousand dollar question.

HOW could anyone have such a sweet piece and NOT PLAY IT.

jeff

Laddie i could think of worse things to spend your money on.I think hammonds
are well worth your investment. One more won't hurt.

Jeff

Ken & Dianne Godfrey

Jeff,

That's a good idea. We definitely have more resources to choose from than
Hammond had in the early 30's!

I know a guy in the laser cutting business, too. He doesn't usually do
steel, but he's done up to 1/8" thick plate on occasion. He normally sticks
to wood and plastics.

But, I know another guy with a machine shop who also has a laser and a
water-jet. He cuts steel all the time.

Yes, KEI has it... it is no secret. The box is there for viewing right in the store. As I said, he (Jim) is moving and would now like to sell it, but for the best possible price. He asked me about price and I told him, and also told him I would try to get an average figure. I find it intersting with all our proximity, that no one will venture a figure. For something for you all to jump on, I told him I would not sell it for less than $50,000.00 That a true collector would pay that figure.. the problem would be to locate the true collector. I also told him that he would have to send a tech with it to unpack it and carefully check it out..add gradual power, look for smoke, etc. But, for that kind of money he could afford to do that. Two other people have told me my figure is too low and it could go for $100,000.00 Now what do you think???
