[hammond_zone] Anybody carrying the beast?

Hey Hammond brothers & sisters,
I've seen a lot of talk here about all the clones
but not a lot of discussion about the Hammond
consoles ( B-3, C-3, etc. ). Is anybody still carryin'
around the beast or am I the only dinosaur left in
this crowd?
I (and 2 other people!) carried 2 C3s and a 145 and a142 down into my cellar 18 months ago and that is where they are staying!

They sound different from each other. One was bought originally for spares and became a "project" and has been rebuilt and broken manual resistance wires repaired (see the files section on this list's web site on yahoogroups). I know it seems mad having 2 C3s but I can't bear departing with either!!

The sound of a REAL Hammond through a Leslie is just incredible. I first got turned on to it in 72 aftwer hearing Keith Emerson and ELP. Since then I've become a Hammond addict and listen to many different musicians ranging from Keith to Barbara Dennerlein, JTQ (the business!!) Jimmy Smith Reuben Wilson etc etc.

A clone will NEVER match the real thing.

I do assume you mean XB-2 - and of those manuals I have plenty. We did unpack the original English versions, and put in some national once, I made by the way. Of course I kept the originals, so no problem.

Best regards
Lars

Hello Jimmy!!

Thank you for this nice post.
You are really in love with the hammond. As we are. Elisabeth plays it as
I???m a guitarist, but I maintain it. We used to carry it to gigs, along with
leslie and the Fender rhodes. As we do mostly studio work, we had no gigs
for a few years. (No good places to play here, no money to pay a good
drummer and bass player.) Now we think of putting a live band together
again. But we are hesitant to take the C3 and leslie back on the stage as we
don???t want to harm it. Hammonds are all around in the USA, but here in
Germany they are quite rare.
Keep on grrooovin???

Hey Hammond brothers & sisters,
I've seen a lot of talk here about all the clones
but not a lot of discussion about the Hammond
consoles ( B-3, C-3, etc. ). Is anybody still carryin'
around the beast or am I the only dinosaur left in
this crowd? ( and perhaps not the brightest one
in the bunch, I suppose you could say. )
My B-3 / 122 rig is at the heart of our band's
sound and people come up all the time at shows
and comment how much they enjoy having that
sound as well as being able to experience it up
close. Many have seen B-3's on big concert
stages, but never really got to get a personalized
tour like the one I always feel so obliged to give
them. Even after hauling this thing around for
nearly 30 years I'm still so totally in love with the
sound and the sheer beauty of this instrument.
I totally respect how far the clones have come
and don't dis anybody for that choice, but for
me there will always be just ONE Hammond. I love
being surrounded by that georgeous wood and
feeling those low rich chords move through my
body. I keep my Leslie directly behind me about
3' up so when I lean back against the cabinet I
get the full vibe. It's awesome!
Hope to hear from you all in the future and I'd
be interested in hearing about any customized B-3
and Leslie combos as well....like what do you all
know about " Groove Tubes " for a Leslie 122 ?
Keep the faith!
Sincerely,
Jimmy Lange

I???ll pray for you that your wife may change her mind. Playing a hammond is
a love affair. Nothing to do about it.
Best wishes;

Peter

I have to get a clone. My wife won`t let the beast into
the apartment. The real 'B3' I play will be the one at
church. She said I can have a Leslie, but it has to be
portable. I love my wife!

I know only to well the attitude of you wife. Though I am at no time to complain about my private situation, being surrounded by Hammonds, I
only know to well that it is rare to find somebody who shares the enthusiasm for the old Hammonds.

I have also had to find a seperate place to put my organs, and at home I only have one model A, not even with a leslie, but an original tonecabinet.

Hope you manage to get around the situation.

Best regards
Lars
