Well, you?know, I was only saying. I mean it was just a thought.

Yeah, sure. Right.

All that about electric machinery. Yeah, great. Dusty?finger stuff. Make you sneeze. Early 20th century musical history. You have to have it here.

No I'm not joking.

Yeah, love it.

Anyway, I did answer my own question about a sweet sound. If anybody at all is interested.
?
Here's what?I found. I think it's a nice sweet sound for practising pedals because it's unobtrusive. I like the contrast between the plain reedy top manual without tremelo against the smooth lower manual with a tremelo. And the big bass and soft lower voicing carries the sound forward.

ROM Cards

Charles Pender

I know most of you guys are B3 purists...but I've got a hammong super B that sounds great to me. I'm interested in obtaining all the hammond organ voice rom cards I can get my hands on. Can anyone help me with this?

thanks so much,
Charles

During time I have had and played many different Hammond organs. Each and every one of them having its very own personallity. Everybody talks about the B3 as being the ultimate Hammond, but I am not one of them. For me the B3 is a great organ, but by fare the only one within the Hammond family.

I know what you mean regarding the cabinet and the feeling. There is something special to it, especially put next to a XK2 or XB1. No doubt. But then again these two junior models are not supposed to replace the B3 or for that matter the XB3. They only help you being mobile and saves you back! They represent a compromise in that respect, and as such they do a great job. I know I have played some places where I am happy to be alive due to the XK2 as in fact I could not have managed to have had the B moved into these small rooms and up and down the stairs.

B3 is a representative for what Hammond made back in the mid ???50s. But looking for the authentic Hammond you have to go back to the beginning, and here you find a different sound. The discussion can go on and on, becourse different sound also relate to different music, I know. Main point for me is though that I do not appriciate the fanatic B3 attitude, it kind of limits the idea and the music as intended by Hammond in the first place.

Best regards
Lars

Dear Lars,
I don`t think Hammond will ever die. Its sound fits in
too many places for it to ever be replaced. I`m a
newbie to keyboards but I can tell a clone from the real
thing even when I can`t tell you what chord is being
played. I don`t think me and my XK2 are gonna be
together for long. Its something about sitting behind
that big hunk of wood and playing Gods music that makes
me and angels cheer. Somebody else said in another
post, Having a Hammond is a love affair. I`m gonna have
me a real B3 soon and a house to go with it. My XK2
will be gathering dust! Casey

P.S. I`m also an electronic technician. I`m gonna
start repairing Hammonds, too.

While I respect the members who do not possess technical/mechanical skills or
have no interest in what makes the "beast" tick, I ask that others respect
those of us who do. I appreciate the wealth of knowledge and technical
"tips" available for the asking, and am grateful to the folks who are willing
to share their experiences. The forum is wide enough to explore any avenues
the members care to travel. Go ahead, post your topic of interest, kick back
and enjoy the ride. There is enough at the banquet table, that no one should

Hello everybody.
I've been advertising for months to try and do a straight SWAP. My Leslie combo preamp II, ( which drives a leslie 760) for a combo preamp that drives a 147 / 145.
I am in UK. Anyone out there that wants to do this SWAP?
Cheers.

Good point.? After all, the whole point of the Hammond is to make music!? Although this is also an excellent place to ask technical questions, there should be other discussions as well, like the examples below.? Not all of us have real Hammonds anyway, some of us have to slum it with imitations!

That is fine for someone who has no interest to know what their instrument does.? Not meant to be smart.?
?
Bottom line is we are all different.? Appreciating and despising different styles and sounds.? There is nothing everyone will agree on.? Just the jazz/rock/gospel to theater organ preferences are worlds different.? Some play at home when they are bored and it makes them happy.? When the thing breaks they can wait until next November to spend money so someone can fix it - or not.? Some others play to make money and use it as a tool.? In that case if someone play professionally, when it breaks or when you are not able to play in front of a substantial audience I'd hate to be the guy that never gave a hoot how it works.? Some just beginning their Hammond appreciation with a couple of albums, another with a Voce microB module, others with one spinet or several Hammond consoles, some others maybe in the business of repairing/selling them.? No opinion is more righteous than the other.? To me the bottom line should be if it involves Hammonds it is likely in the right place at the Hammond Zone.? If it doesn't interest anyone, we'll press the delete key.? No one will be offended.? Takes much more energy to debate something we don't like than to ignore it.
Don't clone em

Just realize, your suggestions to spend money on real thing and spend money to repair it is not an option for ever hobbyist.

Its all about the Hammond.? Whether its the sound or the machinery the produces the sound.? All the familiar glitches, clicks, pops and crackles that make it the most consuming rock, blues and jazz instrument going.? If you dont like the techy stuff, dont respond to it, send a mail about music instead.

Not much about music in this mailing list. Mostly about machinery.
?
I have the impression that the Hamtech mailing list is principally for technical matters. I was hoping this one might be different.
?
Anyone know of a Hammond mailing list where the interest is more toward music?

The music suffers when the organ is broken and Im glad about any help

开云体育

Dear David!
?
You are right. I?m very happy about all of you who could help me so far. I?d be lost without the advice of people who had to do repairs before.? If I could choose I`d just call somebody and have it fixed but that is not always easy:?? This is what happened to me the last days when I tried to fix a noise in the percussion amp of?our C3:
?
I?m really into something with this case.? Last night
I pulled in a friend who?s hobby is building and restauration of(vintagetube
amps)? He brought his oscilloscope and we tried to trace the source of the
crackle.? Before I had changed C 60, c 30 and unsoldered C 31 an C39??? The
noise was even there when we shorted the T4 output.?? It disappeared from
the oscilloscope? when V 7 was pulled.?? The amplitude of the crackle was
always negative.? I gently knocked on each component,? loosened the srews of
the transformers to see if there was some contact with the chassis. We
checked the resistors that get hot.? Maybe will replace some of them
tonight. Just in case Nothing.? This noise was present for a few weeks now.
Yesterday it suddenly disappeared with a sudden "pop", came back with an
initial "pop" after some time only to disappear when I pulled out my frost
spray to test.?? Today I have the organ on since early morning.? Only once
the noise came back with a "Pop" and stayed for 5 minutes. Then disappeared
with another pop.?? It is not triggered by mechanical action and not by
moving the slow/ fast switch.
What do you think about the transformers?? Any idea?

This whole thing has become the center of my activities rather than writing
and producing music. I even start to understand more and more of the circuit
diagram and learned the color code for resistors.
I?m glad for any hint.

There is a lot about the tech side because - if you play one of these instruments on the road (or even in your living room) you have to learn how to fix them.? They are at least 27 years old and although they are a tribute to classic over-engineering, they are all failing and need maintenance.? Every one of them.? Most of the players out there don't know what they sounded like new and might not know how failing it has gotten (myself included).? So to play it and make any kind of music with the organ functioning correctly you have to work on it.?
?
Playing music is kind of easy - there is no real wrong way and we all interpret things the we interpret them.? The functional side or technical end - how do I fix this broken thing on my 35 year old Hammond Organ - does not leave a lot of room for interpretation.? There is probably someone here who has been down that road and can help.?? I bet most here think about playing much more than think about the technical side.? It is just the tech. end requires talking, the musical aspects do not.? Maybe that is it.? You want to talk about music.? Whatcha thinkin?
?

I love the Hammond Zone just the way it is!!!!!

You post what you want to talk about on the Hammond Zone. I thought
we were a community of friends, a collective. Who just also happen
to like Hammonds. Yes, I have a clone Hammond, XK2, a non Leslie
speaker. But does that stop me from liking a B3? I have a friend,
no matter what we try to talk about, he always turns the subject back
to bass fishing. Well, I love bass fishing, buttttt! There are
plenty of places on the net where those other subjects can be talked
about. And frankly, to me, they are boring. I`m starting a poll.
On the left click on polls and make you voice heard. Keep the
Hammond Zone free. And the church said AMEN.

and X66 and happen to like them both....
