Re: [hammond_zone] Re: Mime file attached. Is it a virus?
Hey Mike and Hammonders, Yeah that quick switch thing is cool but I had always been warned that it was the only way you could actually knock a Hammond organ permanently out of tune. Is that true or just and ol' Hammond wives tale? I used to have an ol' B-2 ( with percussion added ) and the preamp would stay fully engaged after you turned the power switch off. At the end of the night the band would do this big-ass, monster ending and I'd hold this big fat two-handed chord while the singer would switch the organ off. As the tone generator gradually slowed the chord pitch would fall all the way down to rumbling sub human-hearing level and it just knocked 'em out. We had a huge P.A. and the sound guy would just crank that thing till the whole place shook with the thunder! I miss that....my B-3's don't let me do that trick. Damn! Keep it spinnin', Jimmy

DAVE, IF THE TG LOSES TOO MUCH SPEED YOUR SCREWED FOR A RESTART. BUT A SPLIT SECOND WORKS. NOT A GREAT HABIT TO GET INTO FOR TG HEALTH, THATS WHY WE WOULD END A SONG OR TWO WITH A FULL CHORD AND TURN IT OFF. IT'S MORE OF A ROCKER THING BUT I'M SURE EVERYONE WHO HASN'T TRIED IT BEFORE WILL TRY THIS HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT. BEST WITH A FULL BLAST GRIND, ALMOST INTOXICATING. MM

"Lee Michaels Live"....has IMO an even better version of "Stormy Monday" than the studio lp.
The left hand bass is thicker because Lee used a BC Hammond. I think the late Bill Beer modified it also.
No foldback on the BC and that's why the bass is so strong.

Re: [hammond_zone] Song suggestions?
Hey Dave,
??? If you can get hold of Don Patterson's album
" These Are Soulful Days " ( not sure it ever made
it to CD ) and check " Muse Blues " you'll hear
about 17 minutes of the rippinest Hammond B-3
blues I have ever found. OH MY GOD? ! ! !
Otherwise, Groove Holmes, Jimmy McGriff and
Jack McDuff ( among others ) all rip some fine
jazzy Hammond on the bluesy side.
???????? Good Luck and keep

Oh YEAH BABY!!! I sat down at a new job several years ago in an architectural firm and my work partner asks me " So, are you into music? " I replied " Oh yeah.....if it's got a Hammond organ in it!" He grabs Lee Michaels' " Stormy Monday " and jams it in the box, turns it up to twelve and we've been buds ever since! That's the S H I T ! ! ! Also check out " Compared To What? Re: [hammond_zone] Song suggestions?
Hey Wim,
??? Yeah that's an amazing track. I never really
thought of it as more than a single track, but it
is a particularly great one. Lots of emotion and
yes the expression pedal had a lot to do with
creating that. I'll have to listen again very closely
to see if I can pick out the pitch changes you
mention. I've done this one in bands over the
years and it's always of favorite of the band
and the audience. Sorry y'all, but don't even
try this one on a clone...might hurt yourself!

connection with the eagle, ever since i've heard the track I keep on wondering
how the guy succeeded to play his organ like that. Maybe he recorded multiple
tracks and mixed them together? He managed to have some slight pitch changes
on some attacks of several notes in this track, did you notice that? I
wonder how he did that... or is it some acoustic mix of Leslie, vibrato/chorus?He
also uses his swell pedal very good, I think.??regards?

I experimented with it... but it's not the best thing to do
for your organ, and it only works with TWG organs... by turning it off, the
tonewheels slow down.. which means your pitch will get lower ...
If you've got an internal amp ( as I do) you'd rather not do
it, because the amp also is cut off... The only thing you hear is a
short? tube "breath out" and a lowering pitch fading away...

Re: [hammond_zone] Re: Mime file attached. Is it a virus?
Dave Keith Emerson did that quite a bit, if you can find an old recording of a group called "the nice" and on a tune called "Rhondo" I believe the off/on thing happens a few times very effective, seen him do it live to and it was very intense.

I have heard of a move on the organ to "bend " a note by turning it off for a second as you play and then starting it again has anyone heard of that
thanks DAVE

"Lee Michaels Live"....has IMO an even better version of "Stormy Monday" than the studio lp.
The left hand bass is thicker because Lee used a BC Hammond. I think the late Bill Beer modified it also.
No foldback on the BC and that's why the bass is so strong.

Stormy Monday and How Would You Feel. I dare anybody to produce the left-hand
bass sound he gets. And remember as you listen, it's live, (in the studio)
and it's only him and his drummer, Frosty. O.H.F. BOB

Re: [hammond_zone] Re: Get a snack
Hey old fart! I was just thinkin', when I was a kid my parents would say "turn it down" and now that I have kids, my kids say "hey dad can you turn it down". I gotta make sure my kids girl 15 and boys 18 and 22 don't miss out on the funk, the boys ain't so interested anymore but my daughter will come into my studio and just sit and listen to the 145 spinnin' from my old BC with trek 11 on it and say how she loves the sound but I play a little loud. My oldest son would bring his pals to my gig's or into the studio to show off his old man and how the leslie sounded and looked. #1 son says that a Hammond is like a lethal weapon in my hands, I think he gets it!
Thanks for listening to me ramble
Farty Dan

Dan, Yeah, us old farts got to stick together! We do have a purpose too. To steer and teach the young farts. I've got a 16yr old boy who cooks on
guitar and runs rings around his crowd. I schooled him in the classics such as Hendrix, Clapton, Carlos, and the like. He takes apart and shreds on tunes by the afore mentioned while his buddies feel accomplished figuring out in what order the two chords to some Blink 82 go. He joined myself and a tribe of other OHFs for a charity gig. We did good old, GET YER MOJO WORKING rock. You can't imagine a fathers pride when I looked over and saw my boy
firing it up. There was more than one tear making my keyboards slippery, no shit! Anyways, if we don't do that, who we got to backup? (ha ha). Well I've 'bout bored you guys enough unless others think this is interesting, I know I enjoy your guys experiences. PS It's twelve midnight. Do you know what YOUR kids are playing??? OHF BOB
