PS. As a corollary to Hammond tuning being locked to mains frequency, it is not possible to tune a Hammond to anything other than A = 440 without messing about with variable frequency power supplies.

If a Hammond organ is out of tune, the most likely cause is that oiling has been neglected, and the friction of the unoiled bearings is causing some tone wheels to turn more slowly than they should. The tone wheels are grouped in pairs, with a spring loaded clutch preventing jammed or partially seized tone wheels from stopping the the whole generator. Very often, oiling a neglected Hammond and waiting some time (could be weeks!) for the oil to reach the bearings will free up any sticking tone wheels.

Adding PERCUSSION to 1954 C-2

Hello...haven't posted here for awhile

I local keyboard store in Salem Oregon called me to come and get a 1954 C-2 and PR40 cabinet. For free! I love C-2's....especially the smooth drawbar ones. And I love PR40 tone cabinets.

Anyway now there is the obvious issue of adding percussion. I happen to have? some A 100 preamps...AO 28's I guess that I got at an estate sale earlier this year. I have thought about wiring them up to this C-2 and I know that I would also need the percussion swithches. Of course I could always buy a Trek percussion unit but I am kind of curious about the possibility of using one of these preamps.

If anyone has thoughts about this or has done a percussion mod I would like to hear about it. I possibly would sell one of these preamps to get the Trek unit if anyone might want an AO 28.

Also ... can anyone recommend any other Hammond chat groups? I used to be on Hamtech.... not sure if that is going anymore.

Mark in Oregon

Elkatone 610 rotary speakers

Hi

I have five Elkatone 610 rotary speakers, mostly with speed control units, in various states of repair.? Mostly working, most have issues (e.g. non rotating horn, or a speaker not working) but it should be possible to make at least two and possibly more fully working speakers from these.

For those that don't know the Elkatone 610, its a 100W, solid state amplifier, with rotary horn and a bass speaker with rotary baffle / horn. It's very similar to a Leslie 760, but smaller (and made in Italy).

I've tried the usual auction site and got some interest, but nothing too serious.

I need to move these on as I'm moving house and it seems a real pity to just scrap them, so if there are any forum members that would like these, I'm happy to pass them on for free.

I'm near High Wycombe, Bucks, in the UK.? I do travel North from time to time, so delivery might be an option.

Happy to provide any further information etc. - might be better to do this offline as I realise that this isn't strictly 'Hammond'

Cheers

Chris

Re: picture 2

Thanks. I will not be using this. If anyone is interested let me know I will wait several days before I scrap it. Also I am going to remove the light that is under the keyboards. Pedal light I guess. If anyone wants this please let me know. On either just pay the shipping.

thanks

Yes, Don is correct. It is a transformer for a set of chimes. I can't tell the brand really, but it may well be from Mass Cathedral Chimes. The 6 pole socket is for the cable that goes to the control switch(s) that let you select various levels of chime strike loudness. That switch is either in the little add on keyboard you could get for them, or mounted directly in the console somewhere.

I have an old Allen console here that has the whole chimes setup still in it, and it looks similar to that one. Also have the chimes, hanger / striker assembly, and the add on contact strip for under an existing keyboard. The project I got that setup for fell though, so my whole setup is available if anyone reading this is looking. I'm in Wisconsin. Shipping a setup like this would be exotically expensive these days, but if someone wants to come collect them, I'd let them go for a reasonable price.

Re: Vibrato scanner

And they all lived happily ever after! Glad it worked out.

I have in the past replaced the linebox caps without removing the box, but I'm not sure if that made it any easier or quicker.

When I had a scanner that was too much oily, I had to switch solvents and do it twice. I know a very good tech who uses a jewelry/rock ultra-sonic cleaner for the scanner parts. He did that for me when I sent him my parts; it worked great. Dry as a bone! You can get one of those for under 100 bux.

Thanks Scott and several others for the replies. I took the scanner from

was a pretty good amount of oil in it. That is working fine. The problem

will be good. The scan box caps in that A100 were not wax paper, so that
is also a good sign. My C3, on the other hand... I have cleaned the
scanner from the A100 and started to install it in my C3. When I finish
that, and make sure it is working, I am planning to remove the line box
and replace the wax caps.? At the same time I installed a 26-1 kit
(acquired from Tonewheel General Hospital) and the A100 with 247 is
sounding really good! Customer and I are both well pleased.

BTW the A100 I believe is 1965. I checked - No Foam!

Thanks for the help. it is greatly appreciated.

To my surprise, I even found a pan scanner in a T series organ

Weak wax paper capacitors at the vibrato line also are a possible
cause for a chopping vibrato. I'd replace them first.
That's incorrect. Broken or shorted ones, maybe.
