Re: [hammond_zone] Screw

Ron Bell

I was talking about toasting the Jensen V-21 treble driver that is stock in
the dual rotor Leslies. You wont be able to overdrive the Leslie at house
volume, the Leslie has to be close to maximum volume for it to overdrive,
even with the capacitor in the swell pedal set for overdrive. Are you
thinking of overdriving the speakers in the L-100 and running the Leslie
clean? I don't think that an L-100 has a cap in the swell pedal to adjust
the gain, I could be wrong. I would check but there is too much crap infront
of my L-102 to move it away from the wall.

I have a L100. But why will the treble triver 'toast'? I understand I you
put everything on full volume things go wrong. But it should be possible to
make my l100 overdrive and set my leslie at house volume, right? Imean
guitar sapeakers can handle (much) distortion too.

impromptu meetings. After a while you simply dont beat around the

the blood from your face and ask with a smile who's next? (we wont

Its kind of irrelivent though, the original patents still stand.
Now that IS a problem...

Raul, have you ever considered generating the sinewave through
optical means instead? Ditch the coils and all that electromagnetic
malarkey that goes with it. Imagine one single transparent tonewheel
the size of a CD with possibly 91 sinewave gradation patterns printed
on it... and I shall say no more!

Off to the patents office hehehe...

Re: [hammond_zone] Re: Tonewheel generators

Some organs have louder keyclick than others. A Leslie will definatley
bring out more keyclick than the internal speakers or a tone cab. The
Hammond speakers do not reproduce the same high frequencies that the treble
driver in the Leslie does, so the Leslie has more pronounced keyclick.

Hi Chris,
I have an A-100 and I don't think I hear any key click at all. Of course,
being 68, my hearing is not what it used to be, but the organ has been in
the family since it was new and I don't recall any "key click" from my
better hearing days. We do not have a Leslie on the A-100. Would that make
the difference?

Hello you all,

Today's my birthday. From this day on I am officially an adult(that's right 21). My parents gave my Live in Japan - Deep Purple and Abraxis - Santana. So there'll be a lot of Hammond plessure!
Since I had to wait 30 minutes for my train, i thought it'd be nice to visit the nearest keyboardshop, which have a XB3. I know a lot of people say a XB3 isn't real. But it's a great piece of machinery if you ask me. It was hooked up to the 11 pin leslie 122. The only minor is the place of the leslie switch. There was not halfmoon switch. Another thing is that the pedals could not keep up the volume of the manuals. But i guess this a digital editable parameter I couldn't find. The overdrive is acceptable too. But when I asked the price, all of my intrest was over. 17.000 dollars including leslie.

Isn't that a nice price for that new 1973 B3? maybe 15.000 becouse there ain't a leslie included.

I'm still checking my neighbours to see if some one has a hammond hidden in the garage or something. Most of the people aren't aware of the value. tell then I'll stick to my L100.
Now I going o listen to my new CD's!
Boy is that John Lord screaming!!

You are really doing great on this. There may be other option that would not
violate patents and still "slip in the slot" Let's wait until you see how
large the
patent problem really is.

Hey Zoners!
I want to thank Darren, our fine mate from the UK, for finding these
valuable documents! As you all know, this is the issue that determines the
viability of re-producing a TWG assembly. No real "work" has been done on
this thing, as all of my contacts have simply been in the
pen/pencil/paper/computer stage right now. All of these folks are
performing
this work gratis either because of their fascenation with the project or
they owe me somethin' :). They all know nothing serious begins until we
ascertain patent status. Thanks to Darrin (I'm uploading a four-pack of
Guinness to you, mate), I now have a good place to start with the patents.
I've already sent Darrin's info to my attorney who has a good patent
attorney on his staff. Sometime next week, he will be in contact with the
appropriate folks at H-S regarding the disposition of the patents and how
many are involved. Best case scenario, but very unlikely, is the purchase
of
the patents. Far more possible, is a license arrangement of some type. If
neither of these options work out, enough has been learned from my
associates that we can produce replacement tonewheels, gears and coils
VERY
inexpensively. So we'll go into the parts business! Hehe. Since I've met
all
you lot, my Hammond work has increased dramatically and I haven't even
advertised. Rather than work on whole organs (none around here), I get
sent
a steady stream of amps and TWGs for reconditioning. So any parts I create
will be used well. No fear, mates. More fun to come!

Raul

t402...doesn't pull any punches..heh.

Its kind of irrelivent though, the original patents still stand.
Maybe it would be better to buy up the generators that are still
around, strip and rebuild those (a recon exchange maybe, that way
your always sure of stock), plus you dont have to worry about getting
a thrashing in the courts. T402 is right about copies...I think that
most would rather have a fully reconditioned Hammond TG than a
copy...if they want a copy they could buy a new B3.

One thing though...its great to see so many teaming up like this;
Raul has obviously done a lot of work on the project already, but I
realy feel that efforts would be wiser spent concentrating on the
TG's that are already out there. Starting small and having just a
couple in stock that are recon'd. I doubt there would be a problem
remanufacturing seperate parts, but out of courtesy I would still
want to get written permission from Hammond; with over 500 of us on
this list there is bound to be one or two that would be likely
customers!

The hammondzone email has ground to a halt as I am still having major
ISP problems, I can access only about 10% of the net. I posted the
patent message 24 hours ago, and it only just appeared 4 hours ago!!

As soon as I can get ISP problems resolved the hammondzone email will
be up and running, as it is, Bigmailbox time out from here.

Darren

Hi Laddie,
The attack characteristic or "key click" of the Hammond organ has long been
part of the Hammond sound loved by jazz and rock players. It's most
prominent when played through a Leslie on chorale, with a few drawbars and
percussion (try 888000000 + 3rd harmonic). The effect does depend on
playing style and registration used as well as the individual organ.

Would not such a device use some sort of solid state keying between the
TG
and the AO-28? I guess if you wanted it to really sound like a B3 you
could
use 61 9 pole relays for keying. I can't see that solid state,
computer
(MIDI) controlled keying would sound the same as key contacts, no key
click
for starters!

There is a website about this on the net punch in L-100 and you should
come
across it.It is an extensive modification but it does sound good. You can also
drop in
an upper manual in the lower manual position and get 9 main busses instead of
7.
OR find an M-3 instead which is a drawbar only spinet with B-3 guts.

You dont have to remove the screws, just the little round plug. It is a
variabl capacitor not a volume controll, turn it all the way clockwise, this
is the quietest setting, do not turn it more than two turns counter
clockwise. If you screw it fight out it is a big pain to get it back in. And
like I have already posted not to much overdrive or you will toast your V-21
and these are no longer made although I have heard the 100w ferro-fluid
driver from Ham-Suz is a good replacement and can stand up to a little more
overdrive.
Cheers
