Re: A Whiter Shade Of Pale

Hi all fellow Hammondeers!

If you look at Matthew Fisher's web site he states quite categorically
that the organ used on this track was indeed an M series organ, an M102
if I remember correctly.

A friend of mine used to do organ club gigs on an L100 with a 145 Leslie
and also he had a regular gig at a restaurant called the "Fleur De Lys"
near Walsall England and it became a bit of a mecca for organ nuts, the
organ there was an L100 with a 122 Leslie and very good it sounded too,
he produced some pretty good bluesy sounds and although not up to the
standard of the C3 or B3 it was easier to carry around split than the C
or B would have been.

Best Wishes to all.

The wiring diagram is at ,

Ignore the wurli. hookup on the left and follow the instructions from my
last mail and you will be ready to rock!! Make sure your kit matches the
wiring diagram from the link, if some one has been messing with the kit
double check every thing!!

Cheers,
Ron Bell.

Hey ther Ron,

I was looking at the inside of the 26-1 and discovered that there is no
wires
going to the trem socket or the echo socket.I figure this is where the
half
moon switches plug in.I think maybe someone in the past did some creative
wiring for some reason. Can you shed some light on what wires are supossed
to
be attached to the respective sockets.

thanks.......jeff

Chris Clifton

Jeff,
If you follow this link, you'll find a diagram of a Leslie connector kit;
. He's used
the diagram for a Wurlitzer kit, but if you ignore the piggy-back adapter
bottom left and just look at the red, green and black wires coming from it
to the kit you'll get the idea. The red wire takes the signal coming from
your organ amp (break into the green wire to the speakers), the green wire
connects to the organ speakers and the black wire goes to organ ground, most
conveniently the terminal on the speakers where the original black wire is
connected.

Chris Clifton

Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be
replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. Douglas Adams

here's the site all about the G-100, but the page with the voices is incomplete for some reason. Whomever made up this site has left out many of the stops in the swell division.

Re: [hammond_zone] G-100 question

actually, I've been to many sites about the G-100, and I've printed up everything. I was just curious as to why my G-100 has a different reed stop in the pedal from the other ones I've played. I suppose it's a custom model.

my G-100 has a "Trompette 8" in the pedal division, and I've played
another one that had a "Bombarde 16" instead. What's the story with that?
Are all G-100's not the same?

Re: [hammond_zone] new member

That sounds like an old church organ well before the B3 era. I have seen one
like that at a church here in SW Detroit. An old flame from years ago had a
Hammond quite like that one. It had a similar speaker cabinet, but had a
rotating sound to it, yet there were no rotating baffles or cones inside this
cabinet. It had the lushest, most prominent sound . The pedal seemed to have
too much delayed attack, and would not get to full volume on the short notes.
Sounds interesting.

Re: e100

Ron is right in his descriptions..although in the UK ?1000 for a
console organ...If its in good condition I would say thats exactly
the right price as long as its in good working condition. What other
console could you buy that is serviceable and sounds as great? Gotta
say though..if your into Jazz/Blues etc its probably not the one for
you as there are no second or third harmonic percussion voices as
Ron pointed out. I would classify this as a 'church' or 'classical'
model now...funny eh?, isn't that what they were designed for????

Darren

PS its great to have my cable modem back...pity my hard drive has
packed up now... i'm on the lappy!

Re: [hammond_zone] Looke here, looke here, Have you seen this yet????

That Lenny Dee sound is interesting... I knew him reasonably well about 30 years ago, and that is a long story.
I don't even know if he is still living. I do know that his preferred instrument, before the X-66 mod, was a Model A mod.
He was not a B-3 fan and even liked to play an A-100 in preference to the B-3 He rewired the back, and worked in a Solovox to get some of those great wild sounds. Although many did not know it, he also played the hell out of the presets. He was a whole organ guy. More than once I watched him hold down the release key with the little finger of his left hand and play the presets like regular keys, in particular the A# and B, with a strong contrast on the draw bars. He was always very nice to me and I really liked him very much. He could get a hell of a lot out of a Hammond, but he liked his Leslie and you all know that story..

Now, why didn't I think of that. This new B3 could be really something.
But, as I think about the generator being a digital production of the
original B3 sound, I can only imagine that they are using a sampling
process. This method would mean that they are just cloning one of the
original tonewheel generators (all 96 pitches as they state).

Cloning the B3 sound digitally was done in the Super B prior to
Hammond/Suzuki and after the original Hammond organ Company was closed.
I had heard that the original Hammond company had done most of the
development but it was not completed until after the company was sold to
the gentleman in Australia. The Super B did not sell for very long. It
only sampled a very small portion of the full generator and we all know
that each and every tonewheel has it's own personality which creates the
unique unduplicatable sound of all tonewheel Hammonds. This fact left
the sound close in the center of the freq range but rather thin in the
bass and bright and somewhat sterile in the high end.

A very close friend of mine purchased a Super B right after it was
introduced. Because of the shortcomings and to reproduce the Lenny Dee
sound, we have done much modification to it. The modifications we have
done include; echo, key click (we could not find any key click in the
sampling), additional channels of amplification for backgrounds and
personal taste (it has it's own Leslie which matches the styling of the
console) and much tailoring of the voicing to develop the original B3
with a 122 Leslie tube warmth. We were able to get the sound so close to
the B3/122 that only the most critical ear might know that it was not a
B3/122.

If I can ever get approved to sign onto the Hammond_Zone site, I could
upload some pictures. We also have produced about 360 minutes of
recordings and I might get authorization to upload some samples onto the
site.

I am really looking forward to seeing and hearing this new B3.

Lyle,
Hammond Master Tech
