Re: [hammond_zone] Re: 9 vs 6 pin
Peter D Abrams
Ok folks. 2 ways to go. If you're not the electronically inclined,
you can order most of these kits from Ham-Suz dealers. I'd recommend www.GoffProf.com. Dave Vumback is pretty good at sending stuff. Be aware that these folks take a bit of time processing internet orders, and won't send you emails regarding shipping status, etc. If you're anxious, call them. Otherwise just be cool. It'll show up eventually. They're busy people. For the electronically inclined, the source book for all leslie hookups and pinouts can be found via MITA at Harv Olsen's Leslie Page: This will give you the correct info regarding hookups/pinouts/model numbers, etc. Print it out for reference. It's a Bible. Hope this helps, pda Jax Fl |

开云体育Hello
guys
???? Just seen a question on hooking up a 6 pin
leslie to an 11 pin VK-7, I'm certainly interested in being able to do that, if
there is an adaptor out there please let us know, if not someone should invent
one cause I'm sure they could sell enough to retire Ha Ha!

Re: [hammond_zone] Re: 9 vs 6 pin
Advice on the options for connecting a real Leslie to a VK-7 is on target overall: you can order an adpater kit from a Hammond-Suzuki dealer or make one of your own.
Be aware, however, that in the case of a Roland VK-7 or VK-77, the gain on the output is somewhat inadequate and that you are not going to get a ton of volume out of the Leslie. I'm working on this issue this week with my own VK-77 and 122 and will have some measurement data this weekend (which I will be happy to post). If you are playing in a jazz combo the gain is probably fine, but if you are playing in a classic rock band like I am, and/or if you want to drive the Leslie into a bit of distortion because you like the sound, then the adapter kits are probably not going to do the trick on the Roland clones. The most flexible option is the Trek UC-1A unit. It has two 1/4" inputs (one high gain and one low gain) and four different pin-outs to connect a wide variety of Leslies. Gain is great, the unit is very well built, and you then get the flexibility to change Leslie cabinets (or run two different Leslies with different pin-outs) easily. I recommend Trek products highly. The downsides are cost - it runs around $300 I believe, could be a bit more - and the fact that you have to control the speed with a footswitch versus having keyboard control. I'll let you know the facts on actual gain structure as soon as I have a chance to make the various connections and put a meter on the output this weekend. Dan |

Soulive
Soulive is a hot new organ trio featuring Neal Evans on Hammond. They
recently got picked up by Blue Note and Neal was on the cover of this month's Keyboard Magazine. Heard them once about a year ago and picked up their demo. Heard Neal many times with Moonboot Lover. Great Style, he doesn't kick bass but still kicks ---! If you get a chance to see them live - do so. If not, obtain one of their albums. -Brian |

?
here it is... Have fun with it... but remember, it's just a
demo version... It only works 15 minutes, and random MIDI notes are sent
through... It's annoying after a while...

Re: 9 vs 6 pin
Roger,
?????????I am in the same boat, a variety of mismatched Leslie to organ cable holes. I heard through the grapevine that there are adapters that will allow a single Leslie to accept six or nine pin cables and even a 1/4" guitar type cable! How cool would that be! appreciate any further info on this subject. ???Bob ??O.H.F. |

开云体育Hi there,
?
It is fairly easy to connect 9 and 11 pin leslies. problems
starts when you get into the 6-pin connected Leslies. (A matter of Power).?
I have done the trick with the 9-11 issue several times.
?
If you have possibility to work with electronics it is no big
deal. I made the scematics and they are easy to use. If not you must have
someone to make it.
?
Let me know if I can assist you with
details.
?
Best regards

Re: [hammond_zone] B4-Reverb-Hammonds future
Hello Jimmy!
We have added a tube driven spring reverb to Elisabeth???s C3. Although we have modern and vintage reverb machines in the studio (EMT gold foil plate) it is the swirl of the reverb tail thru the leslie 147 that makes things interesting. It is a unit that could easily be installed via a tube socket plug in. We love it. But as far as studio is concerned - we give every artist the desired amount of reverb during monitoring as it really affects the mood and hence the performance. To hear the C3 with the reverb you can play the following song that is currently nr. 11 in the mp3 Blues Rock Charts. We are very successful on that site with over 20 top - 40 positions in various genres from 2 to 38 All our tracks can (still) be played and downloaded for free from and 2 Blue Star Cds are available from that site as well Most every track has the C3 on it, although sometimes in a subtle way that is not cecognized immediately (yes, we use more registrations than 888000000) A track that features the hammond is Sarah???s Prayer from the gospel charts Finally a big thank you to hammond-zone member Jeff Dairiki for his kind help with our little noise problem. Thank you Jeff!! and love to all of you - keep that rotor spinning!! Peter Blue & Elisabeth Star aka Blue Star P.S - as for the tone vs clone battle: We developed from Roland D 110 with organ sounds to Korg cx3, dynacord leslie simulator, Hammond L 100, Allsound Leslie, Hammond C3 and finaly Leslie 147. At each step of our development we believed we now had the sound nailed. Not true until we got the c3 with leslie 147 in 1993. Didn???t change anything since. Puts a big grin on my (guitarists ) face each time Elisabeth plays it. But we are far from being fanatic. Would love to have that sound in a mobile package. |

You touched on a real interesting point concerning reverb and hearing it while you play. I find reverb and a little touch of delay to be totally inspiring to my performance especially on solos...it just makes you use the expression pedal with so much more punch and emotion. I can't speak for Jimmy Smith, but it has been my experience that most studios send you a dry mix as the tracks are recorded that way with the intent of all " sweetening " to come in the final mix-down. It is commonly held belief that dry tracks provide the most accurate baseline for analysis of track content. I'm not entirely sure I agree with that, but that's how it is in most pro studios, at least in my experience. As for me, I ALWAYS have a touch of verb applied in my monitor/phones when I track here at home. And my live rig has stereo effects ( thru a custom 2500 watt system ) and is glorious to sit in front of and play! The Leslie 122 is mic'd top & bottom and then of course effects come after. It really helps me do what I feel is my best work within my ability....it's a HUGE fat sound, that's for sure! Happy Hammonding! Jimmy Ron Newman wrote: "Weak at best". Re: [hammond_zone] The Ultimate Sound
Hey all.
????????? I think for everyone to see where I am coming from you have to have heard the best rock Hammond player ever born…Lee Michaels! He performed with only a drummer, played left handed bass, and was surrounded by a wall of amps pumping out his Leslie. He put out some dipsy tunes for commercial radio, but don’t judge him by that. If you can get a hold of his live-in-studio record (circa 1970 simply titled “Lee Michaels”) you will hear someone who has truly taken The B-3 as far as it can go, which by mortal standards is beyond comprehension. My point is, after experiencing this record you will never be able to play any clone without feeling you are in a high chair, or feeling like you are riding a Moped rather than a Harley. I urge you all to hunt down this album, crank it up, and get back to the forum with your thoughts. ????????????????????????????????????????????????????????~ Old hippie fart Bob from San Diego, California. ~ |
