Which Clone?
Hi all,
I'm new to the group and to the Hammond. I'm thinking of purchasing a new clone and am looking for recommendations: Roland Vk-7, Hammond XK-2, Korg CX-3, Clavia Nord Electro Pros? Cons? Faves? Dislikes? Thanks! __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Get email alerts & NEW webcam video instant messaging with Yahoo! Messenger |

Re: [hammond_zone] Which Clone?
I have been having a bonding experience at a local music store with a Korg
CX-3. I would have it home by now except for some strange reason, the store owner keeps insisting I should fork over $1900+ before leaving with it. Haven't compared it to it's clone competitors, but my current home rig is a Hammond XTP-50 tone wheel organ, and the Korg runs circles around it. As soon as I can find someone to 'adopt' the XTP, I plan to acquire the Korg. Best feature - 64 presets - all with digitally displayed names - many with obvious references to the players or songs who made that particular preset famous. Beats having to catalog a lot of drawbar combinations. The Leslie simulation is great too. The Korg is a low cost - low maintenance - easy learning curve way to get 95% of the B3 /Leslie sound. But, it still isn't a B3! As one local musician said, a B3 isn't just a sound, it's an experience, and the experience just isn't the same with any clone. Even though I plan to get the Korg, I still see a B3 in my future as well. Keep us posted on your decision. Regards, J.E. Skinner |

Absolutely! And at what volume! Bare with me for this story. I was in a nine piece band, git, bass, drums, two trumpets, sax, trombone, a Janis Joplin clone on git and keys and our front man 6 foot 5 inches tall and sing like a madman, in fact 8 of us sang. Had a gig in a small town, two weeks-six nights/week, the owner, a grey haired bent up old dude, kept coming up and telling us to turn it down. Out of spite we played as quitely as humanly possible, the grey dude came back up and said that's perfect. Someone on the other side of the bar put a coin in the juke box and we could honestly hear the music while we were playing. We continued to play this way and after two weeks there was a noteable improvement, we listened to each other better and the tunes really tightened up, it was wonderful practice. The band was smokin' but just to big to get paid anything worthwhile. BTW I was playing trumpet and doubling on keys. Don't forget to leave spaces... Thanks again for putting up with the story. It doesn't matter the age, either you have the passion or ya don't, then it's a matter of chops. I still have the same passion for it from when I was 16, can't explain it very well but I can play it. Spin it til it smokes dude Dan -----Original Message-----

that silence was mightier than a drumchop, his technique was really awesome but he really got up the lead guitarist's nose. It got to the stage that we were all waiting for the chance of a 'fill' so we all dived in at every opportunity....terrible sound! Then we grew up....we were all about 40 by then, thinner on top, thicker round the middle but the music was a lot more solid too. Long live the HZ Rod. ----- Original Message -----

sure the use of the expression pedal is a great start and a big part of the unique Hammond sound. But in general, I'd just try to leave some holes. ( of course the hot dog guitarist will probably fill 'em up! ) Like when we talk, we need to take a breath right? How much do you enjoy talking with someone who never seems to take a breath or let you get a word in edgewise?...not much fun in music OR conversation. Just my $.02 I'm sure you're coming along just fine and we're so glad and fortunate to have young folks like yourself carrying on the tradition of these great ol' music makers. Us old hippie farts won't be able to carry these things forever. Would ya' stop and give us a hand if you see us struggling on a flight of stairs? Thanks! Can't wait to hear your first CD! Have you recorded much yet? Love to hear anything you have! Keep it spinnin', Jimmy Dave Cohen wrote: for sure jimmy,,, i need style... i have all the technical playing there.. but i dont |

Re: [hammond_zone] Generator oil
Hi,
Well, my local Hammond Organ reparator put some "Huile d'Amande douce" as oil (it's in French, maybe we can translate it by : "Sweet Almond Oil". It's a kind of pretty fluid (like kitchen oil), water-color like, and normaly used for hand-care and skin care. I use it now, and it works perfectly. And it's really cheap ! Regards, Jonathan. I have both versions of Lee's "Stormy Monday" but always liked the live version better on the double lp "Lee Michaels Live". I think this has been reissued. Keith Knudsen who went on to play with Doobies and others was the drummer on this one. Linda zakemo@... wrote: Linda, |
