I just found out today that Joey D is performing this friday at a
small blues club three blocks from my house, the problem is
I have to work as a stage hand for another show at the towns big
venue that night. I'm not even sure what group I will be working
for. I hope they use an organ.
The small club "luther's Blues" has a house B3 with 122
that has been graced by Jimmy Smith as well as others.
Some of you might recognize the name Clyde Stubblefield
(James Browns original funky drummer) Well he has a Combo
that plays in Madison frequently called the "B3 Bombers"
I've been meaning to go check them out, They play at clubs that I
do sound at .
Since I've been working as a roadie/stagehand/soundguy I
have had many priceless opportunities to get up close looks as
at many professional organists rigs
like Paige from the rock band Phish, Benmont Tench from
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, not to mention the rigs used
by such artists as BB King, Buddy Guy, Coco Montoya,
Widespread panic, Tina Turner, Matchbox 20, and Bob Dylan
(Bob didnt use a organist for the two tours I worked for but I had
a good time shooting the s*** with his guitar tech who is a big
hammond/leslie fan.
Well it is too bad I have to miss Joey, He would have been an
excellent addition to my list.
