Re: [hammond_zone] sad story

Mechanically I would reckon those organs are not too bad, get them somewhere
warm and dry, open them up to let the air circulate they'll likely dry out
fine. I wouldn't have thought that much rain would get inside the cabinet,
(depends a bit on wind etc.) The cabinets will be another story, the polish
will be gone, veneer will probably be lifting. If nothing else 244 playing
keys have got to be worth something as spares!

replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. Douglas Adams

Alright Hammond Groupies,

Two weeks of rain on these organs. What do we think the likelyhood of
them
being repaired to good playing condition. I know there could be a million
things wrong with them, could there also be the likelyhood that after a
dry
out and a little care they may fire up?

Just curious as I would love to save them but I'm not sure if after
everything was said and done that it may be cheaper to have bought one
that
was cared for. Granted it would likely be worth the extra money to get
these back into the world.

Two questions 1. has anyone had expierience with repairing a water logged
organ?
2. What do we think poor old Laurens Hammond would have to say about the
treatment of his art?

I read about the high-end clarinet stored in the shed that ended up
being worthless. Betcha the Game Boy is in a nice dry place in this
family.

AMEN sister! Don't get me going about TV! I've got a bumper sticker on
my
refrigerator that says "Kill your television!"

I'm fortunate... I came from a home where we were given books, I had
music
lessons, I practiced the piano and the organ, we went to museums, read
books
about psychology when I was in Jr. High, had a rock collection and knew
all
the words, had an insect collection and knew all the words, developed
film
in
my parents bathroom... you get the picture. TV was and still is the
smallest
part of my family's world. I really think you hit the nail on the head
when
you said what you did. It makes me sick to see those fine organs
damaged
like that... I'd love to go rescue them. A lot of people just don't have
any
class and don't see the value in what should be valued.
