Jackie Mittoo

Jimmy Lange

Hey Guys,
??? Oh yeah, Jackie Mittoo is a wicked Hammond
guy. He sort of bridged reggae to more easy
listening during the " rock-steady " era of Jamaican
music during the 60's as it was gradually making
its transition to true reggae. He lives in England now,
last I heard, as a lot of successful Jamaican artists
do. The lifestyle is much more predictable and
not so prone to outbreaks of violence. Jamaica is
a true third world nation and I've scared the hell out
of myself a few times down there. Still love it though!
??? The recording studios of Jamaica are fascinating!
Most have old equipment that is held together with
duct tape run by guys that never finished 8th grade....
and they get some of the most amazing sounds out
of that! I've been in quite a few, Channel One in
Kingston being my favorite, and don't you know they
all have a B-3 or C-3 sittin' in the corner?! Hammond
is universal and a vital part of the reggae sound.
?????????????????????? Long live the beast!
??????????????????????????????????? Jimmy

?Hello Hammond - Lovers!

We have recorded two more tracks with a "(re)verby" hammond C3:?? Soveto Hop has an organ with a slight african vibe,? Kingston Hop is in Jamaican Style.? Funny thing: We finished this track one week before we heard about Jackie Mittoo for the first time. (We found the link to this pioneer of reggae and ska organ thru hammond_zone!!)

You can listen or download to the songs for free if you click the links, as a bonus we have also included Sarah?s prayer, an all - organ - gospel - style track.

Soveto Hop (2001)

Instrumental track with a slight african vibe. A beautiful guitar melody is backed up by a colourful rythm section and hammond-b3 that takes over for a solo. Relax and sway with the rythm.

Kingston Hop (2001)

Relaxed groove with a spice of island winds. Think Jackie Mittoo meets Pink Floyd. Add your favourite herbs to taste

Sarah?s Prayer (1993)

Hammond-B3 instrumental. A soulful ballad featuring Elisabeth Star on the mighty organ.

A beautiful weekend to all of you;

Peter & Elisabeth aka Blue Star
