I love the XB3 too. I am lucky enough to have one
at work ( I have one of each Hammond Products for customer support) so I can
play it whenever I want. The aftertouch for Leslie control is something
else..great for gospel type music! You can really dive in there.
?
The first time I heard the XB3 and 122XB
Leslie?I knew it was something special..not just a B3 copy...in the last
but one Octave it has the same magic as the B3 and makes the hairs on the back
of my neck stand on end!!! The sad thing is, it has never really been marketed
in the UK, and so has never really been accepted here.
?
I loaned it to Joey De Francesco a while back, he
played it at the Jazz cafe in London. Despite one or two comments by a few in
the audience at the start, I was pleased with how well it performed (with the
help of the master), and although there are some differences in sound to a
tonewheel console... unless you did a head to head I really dont think anyone
would notice the difference?if the Hammond was out of view. Don't get me
wrong..I'm not saying its better than a tonewheel..or worse for that
matter......what it is, is a serious bit of Hammond Kit!

Subject: [hammond_zone] Hammond XB3
Dear Lars,
I play often the XB3 at the home of a
friend who happens to be the
Hammond-Suzuki dealer in Chile, Mrl Pablo
Gallyas. It is a wonderful
instrument. Better than any Hammond made by the
old Hammond Organ Corp.
after the b3. Of course it is not the same, but
certainly the closet one.
The bass sound is incredible, and the Leslie 900
with iys 400 Watts of power
is
magnificent.

> The funny
thing about the XB-2 is that despite it is somewhat older than
the new XB-1
and XK-2, it does sound a lot better. You do not have all
the
edit-possibilities, and you even have some stupid ways of programming,
but
analyzing the sound it is actually better.

big brother XK-2, does have a lot of usefull and nice
features, but the
sound is different. Some like it better than the XB-2.
Again a matter of
taste.

Hammond these keyboard organs does it very well. Also the
double manual
version - XB-5 - or just the top of the XB-3, has had great
success through
leslie. I have seen several XB-3's top only in flight
design, that really
did an amazing job.

the XB3 on a 722 solid state
leslie at a festival, and everybody talked
about the good sound from the old
Hammond and tupe-leslie. They where very
surpriced when they learned that
the this was the new digital stuff and
solid state leslie.
