Hey Hammond lovers!
??? Yes the " A " is a different beast and very dear
to
my heart as not only it is the prototype Hammond
tonewheel available to consumers, it it also my first
organ and the one I learned to play on. I bought it
out of a showroom window in 1971 for $1089.00
every penny of which I earned at Pizza Hut as a
14 year-old boy at $1.45 per hour. Man, did I ever
WANT this Hammond! ....and I still have it. The
cabinet is much slimmer ( kinda' cute, actually ) but
that's largely because it has only tremulant and not
the lush split-vibrato ( line box ) that we console
players have come to love over the years. The different
degrees of? C1 - , C-2, and C-3 vibrato are subtle but
I use them all in every performance as well as
occasionally V-1 too. ( the V's are a little too warbly
for me for contemporary music. )
??? Hey guys, we're not at war on this B-3 thing and
yes
the A-100 series consoles are fine Hammonds. I just
like the look of the B for stage. For recording, any of
the consoles are fine and I love the old BC...ever play
one of those thru two Leslies? It will curdle your milk!!
?????????????????????
Peace, Love & all things Hammond,
???????????????????????????????????????

Dear
Lars,?Again you are
right.The model A, first
designed by Hammond is more gracious than the last B3Perhaps
some people when they say A, they mean the A-100, which is like the C3Different
things !!!Lenny Dee had
a white Hammond Model A with an incredible Hi Fi Sound, since the fifties

?Well Marc,?I
understand your feelings, but you are wrong on some of the details regarding
the simularities of the various model, though I get your point.?Looking
on the model A, well you are right that the B-3 is a copy-cat of that original
design. Though it is more plump than the original A. Actually the difference
in size is substantial as the A is slimmer and far more elegante than the
B-3.?Best regardsLars?-----Oprindelig

?In my opinion the name "B-3"
gathers every Hammond organ with the same kind of tonewheel generator like
A, B, C, RT series. I am a fanatic of those and am proud of it. But when
I wanna talk about them, I have to admit I use the word B-3 as a kind of
a shortcut, and I think a lot of people do the same. I even know artists
who use C-3's or A-100's in studio and write "Hammond B-3" on the booklet
of their CD's. Maybe It's a kind of a label which involves a type of tonewheel
generator. Keeping in mind that the RT-3 is a little different, we all
know the inside of all those organs are exactly the same : the keyboard,
motor, and generator of a unit were all built independently from the model.
Then each unit was assigned to a wood cabinet. Once again, I have to admit
my favorite cabinet is the B-3 : the thin legs, the curves, the body...
just a matter of taste. By the way, take a look at the very first Hammond
organ ever built, the model A number 1 and the B-3 cabinet kind of look
alike, don't they?...Please
don't say a love affair is absurd, the B-3 is the most famous organ ever,
the longest production of the Hammond factory, there must certainly be
a good reason. I live in a small appartment, no tons of money, an old car,
but I don't care at all, the world could crumble, I thank God every day
for giving me a Hammond and a Leslie. I thank Him twice it's a B-3 and
a 122.Best regards,?Marc.
