Hammond is more than B-3, B-3 and B-3

Nice to find someone who agrees with me. You are Right not being fanatic with the B3 does not mean that we do not like it. Basically the same construction as to generator, amp and keyboard was used in all the various "B-versions". D-100, RT-3, A-100, C-3 and B-3 all are the same inside (to some extend!) And even looking one generation back the line to the B-2, C-2 and RT-2 we have the same basic except for the percussion thing. One of the major differences in the sound is also due to the Leslie connection. The issue of Hammonds own tonecabinets is rarly discussed, and using those you get a totally different out-put on you music. And using both - Leslie and Tonecabinets - gives you an even fatter and warmer sound. Do not underestimate the PR-40 for instance. This sounds great together with the Leslie. I have a very special Hammond - the Aeolian-Hammond model BA. Kind of the first "automatic" keyboards, with a build in play-along-function. Still it is from 1938! - It works perfectly and sounds even better. But the sound is due also partly to the special DR-20 and DXR-20. And here you find a rotor-drum in front of the speakers. I did not say Leslie, becourse it is two Hammond Tonecabinets! -----Oprindelig meddelelse----- Fra: Guillermo Garcia Huidobro <ggha@...> Til: hammond_zone@... <hammond_zone@...> Dato: 30. maj 2001 19:35 Emne: [hammond_zone] You are absolutely right Lars Dear Lars, You are right. The B3 fanatical wave is absurd. The wave is producing an inflationary impact that is nice for their owners and collectors fans. But I love my A-105, and its cabinet too. The point should be to support the tone wheel generator sound of the real Hammonds A, B, C, R Guillermo Garcia-Huidobro ----- Original Message -----

Each and every one of them having its very own personallity. Everybody talks about the B3 as being the ultimate Hammond, but I am not one of them. For me the B3 is a great organ, but by fare the only one within the Hammond family. I know what you mean regarding the cabinet and the feeling. There is something special to it, especially put next to a XK2 or XB1. No doubt. But then again these two junior models are not supposed to replace the B3 or for that matter the XB3. They only help you being mobile and saves you back! They represent a compromise in that respect, and as such they do a great job. I know I have played some places where I am happy to be alive due to the XK2 as in fact I could not have managed to have had the B moved into these small rooms and up and down the stairs. B3 is a representative for what Hammond made back in the mid ?50s. But looking for the authentic Hammond you have to go back to the beginning, and here you find a different sound. The discussion can go on and on, becourse different sound also relate to different music, I know. Main point for me is though that I do not appriciate the fanatic B3 attitude, it kind of limits the idea and the music as intended by Hammond in the first place.
