Ritold and Jerik both won six rounds after slow starts. Troward had the best coomeback of anyone. After losing six of the first seven rounds, they scored 95%, 100%, 100% and 90% on the last four boards to pull up into fourth N-S. No slams were bid today. The field avoided slam on Board 7 but only four defenders led the right suit. some pairs tried games in the minors and two pairs were pushed to 5H on Board 5. Erik and Doug asked for key cards on Board 17 but both prudently stopped missing one key card and the trump queen in an eight-card fit. It is just as well they had a clear win, as Don misclicked in the auction on Board 17 and they reached 5D rather than 3NT. While this is normally not a good thing, Pul tied for top by escaping with -1, as 5D required a harder to lead to find for the two-trick set that was easy against 3NT. Andbot and Ritold both finished 7-2, while Mattbot, Leighry and Tasnot won six rounds. Tasnot had a scorching run on Boards 11-15, scoring 69.5/70 matchpoints for those five boards and giving them a real shot at winning overall. Board 12 had the identical Failure to Alert at two separate tables. Both Wests did not Alert their Flannery opening bids, after which two Norths overcalled 2S on a five-card suit, albeit a good one. One table reached the normal result when South bid 3C. At the other table South passed 2S and I adjusted that result. On Board 4 the most popular contract was 4Sx N, which was played six times. Board 5 was the only hand on which all fifteen tables played in the same denomination (although Boards 10, 16, 17 and 18 were only prevented from this by an accident at one table), although not quite the same contract - one pair bid Gerber and went down in 6NT while everyone else was in 3NT from one side or the other. A couple of unfinished boards that I thought I'd adjusted popped up as average and I had to adjust them again. Boric and Pharah both had round records of 7-2, matched by Mom, although they finished eleventh overall. they all three won the first five rounds. Anbot lost the first four rounds but rallied to finish above average. This was in part the day for 3NT, with all fourteen tables in 3NT E on Board 1, 3NT S on Board 12 and 3NT by either North or South on Board 11. Board 8 was the most exciting, with doubled contracts in four different denominations, including an 1100 penalty for E-W, an 800 penalty for N-S and what should have been another 800 penalty for N-S but Kevin escaped for -1. The problem hand was Board 4, on which N-S had to stay out of slam with 31 HCP and two flat hands missing the ace-king of spades. Five pairs found themselves in an impossible 6NT.
