Elecraft KXPA100 Amplifier for sale
Hello ham buds, I have an Elecraft KXPA100 for sale. My dad acquired this with some other equipment. Neither of us own Elecraft radios, so I am just trying to sell this for him. I have no way to use it or test it, but it looks like this amplifier has never been used. This unit does not have the built in antenna tuner or the built in antenna switch. It should work with Elecraft radios, but if you own one you already know more about it than I do. I'm asking $250 for this. If you are interested just send me an email Eric

Planning for ARRL Field Day 2025
2
Greetings, Hambuds! It's time to start planning for ARRL Field Day 2025. Field Day will be June 28-29. Rules will be posted later, when published. Do we want to operate from the Southwest Regional Park Railroad Pavilion, as we have done in the past? One member, who recently installed a whole house generator, mentioned the idea of hosting Field Day at his house, but no formal offer has been made, at least that I am aware of. While operating on emergency power is always nice, we would need to have tables, chairs, and shade to operate there. I will not be a breakfast tomorrow, due to Williamson County ARES training exercise. I would apppreciate it if those at breakfast would discuss Field Day, especially to those who no longer read email, and see who would like to operate, and where the club should operate from. If the decision is to operate from the Railroad Pavilion, I am willing to make the reservations. Have a good weekend! 73, Tim L. N5TML

Winter Field Day Results, Try 2
3
Greetings, Hambuds! Sorry, I hit the wrong button and my message was sent out very prematurely. A big THANK YOU to all those who showed up and operated and/or helped operate and log, The names I have are John, KE5RS; Marc, WA6HBR; Matt, K5TMT; and Steve, KO5HX; and myself. If I missed anyone, my apologies and thank you. Thanks to all those who came by the pavilion and visited! It was good to see everyone. Also, thanks for the drinks and doughnuts! Finally, thanks to all who helped set up stations and antennas as well as take them down. I learned that the winter clothes I have for hiking and outdoor activities, including camping next to a nice warm fire, did not keep me warm this past weekend. I need to upgrade my winter wardrobe. At least we did not have snow on the ground. For those interested in the scores, we made 148 CW contacts, 102 Phone (SSB) contacts and zero (0) digital contacts. We met a few of the objectives/multipliers. Since I am not a contester, I didn't push them. I enjoyed visiting and helping others, and yes, make some contacts. By my calculations, our final score is 2786. Thanks again, and have a good week! 73, Tim L. N5TML P.S. I hope I did not offend anyone by walking away from your interesting conversations. I was cold, and needed to move around to try and get warm. It didn't help much. Hopefully we can talk again with a better (warmer) environment.

Winter Field Day this weekend!!
2
Hi, there, Hambuds! Winter Field Day is this weekend! I'm glad the freezing weather will be over, at least for a little while. I would like to encourage everyone to come out and visit us. The on air event starts at 10:00am CST on Saturday and runs through 3:59pm CST Sunday. We will be setting up our stations and antennas beforehand, and taking them down afterwards. Any and all help will be appreciated! We need a few people to come out and operate Sunday afternoon. The longer event this year will make most of us very tired, and could use some time to relax while others operate. We will coach you if wanted. Even help logging would be great. For those attending, please remember to bring you own water, drinks, snacks, and other food. Dress in layers, as it will be cooler when the clouds come in, and I don't know how windy it will be. Hope to see you all at the Railroad Pavilion at the Southwest Regional Park. 73, Tim L. N5TML

Winter Field Day Next weekend!
Hi, Hambuds! Winter Field Day is next weekend!! Jan. 25-26, operating from 10:00am CST Saturday through 3:59pm CST Sunday. We have the Railroad Pavilion at the Southwest Regional Park reserved both days. Please make plans to come by and visit and help operate. After the freezing weather early next week, next weekend may feel balmy. :-) At least, until they change the forecast (again). For those operating and visiting, please bring your own water, other drinks, and food and snacks. Hambuds will not provide any food. I'll bring some extra bottled water in case someone needs some. Even though it won't be hot, we need to keep ourselves hydrated and nourished. If someone has a coffee pot they could provide for everyone, that would be great! Hope to see everyone there. Stay warm next week. 73, Tim L. N5TML

Winter Field Day 2025 - Pavilion reserved
4
Greetings, Hambuds! Hope you all are staying warm during this cold spell. Hopefully Winter Field Day weekend will be warmer. Good News: We now have the Railroad Pavilion reserved for both Saturday and Sunday! We no longer have to plan to move stations and antennas early Sunday morning. I don't know what changed, but am glad we have the Railroad pavilion for both days. We (still) can have up to two (2) RVs overnight, without utilities. No, the Hambuds will not provide any. Sorry. So, feel absolutely free to rent a RV for the weekend and share it with all of us. For those planning to stay overnight, please let me know so I can inform the park personnel. Thanks! As a reminder, the on air event starts Saturday at 10:00am CST and runs through Sunday 3:59pm CST. We welcome all to come and visit and operate some or help with logging. Also, if anyone knows about networking and can help set up a shared logging computer, we need your expertise. If anyone has an extra laptop for use as a logging computer, that would be great! Please make plans to come out and join us! 73, Tim L. N5TML

Winter Field Day 2025 Update
2
Greetings, Hambuds! I was hoping more people would speak up for operating and /or helping with Winter Field Day 2025, and delayed reserving the Railroad Pavilion. This past week I went by the park office to reserve the pavilion, but someone else had already reseved the pavilion on Sunday. I put my name in for the pavilion for Saturday, but have not paid for it yet. We will be allowed to stay overnight. However, the pavilion should be clear of our stuff by 8:00am Sunday. So, do we still want to use the pavilion on Saturday? Or should we just wait for summer ARRL Field Day? Any thoughts or inputs? Thanks! 73, Tim L. N5TML P.S. Hope to see everyone at breakfast on Saturday morning!

Question for Foodies and Cooks
6
Hello, Hambuds! Hope you all are doing well. I've heard that one community northwest of Austin is the self-declared pecan capitol of Texas, (perhaps San Saba?). Are there places around town to buy these locally-grown pecans? Also, what are the best variety (ies) of pecans for cooking? Or, Where is the best place to buy pecans and walnuts? Or, Do you all just buy whatever is in the local grocery store? Hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving holiday and weekend!! Hope to see you all at the Christmas Gathering on Dec. 7!! 73, Tim L. New rules for Winter Field Day 2025
Hi, Hambuds! The Winter Field Day organization had made changes to the rules and multipliers. The biggest change is that the event runs for 30 hours instead of 24, starting at 10:00 CST on Saturday, Jan. 25 and ending one minute before 4:00 CST (3:59) on Sunday, Jan. 26, 2025. So, if we operate from the park as a group, we will need to set up right after breakfast. Or, if we all operate from home, leave breakfast in time to warm up your station and get ready to rumble. :-) I am attaching the 2025 rules and infomation for your convience. Please read this if you are planning to operate or help the club during Winter Field Day. Have a nice weekend! 73, Tim L. N5TML

Winter Field Day 2025
3
Greetings, Hambuds! Winter Field Day is coming, Jan. 25 - 26, 2025. I have not made reservations for the Railroad Pavilion yet, and would like to know who is interested in operating next year. For ARRL Field Day last June, we had only two operators working at a time. While it was nice to see everyone visiting on Saturday evening, I am not sure if it's worth reserving the pavilion for the weekend ($100 per day) for only two operators. Personally, I would like to have three (3) operators working at the same time, so we need several people to commit for working Winter Field Day. Of course, offers to help set up and take down antennas are always welcome. A second option is to reserve the pavilion only for Saturday, and have everyone visit on Saturday evening or late afternoon similar the ARRL Field Day. We may be able to leave our antennas up and operate on Sunday, just not reserve the pavilion and share it with others (mostly the cricket crowd). Another option is to not reserve the pavilion, and everyone operate Winter Field Day from their home, and assign the points to Hambuds. If anyone wants to operate from the park, that would be fine, but the club would not have the pavilion exclusively. Please share your thoughts, ideas, and if you are willing to operate at the park for Winter Field Day. Thanks, and 73, Tim L. N5TML
