Oh,. I have one already. I have run 1 kw but I have to be careful about
"key down".Too long, the ferrites heat and the swr goes up. Fortunately it
recovers upon cooling without any damage.
I do agree

Paul,
Just make sure you get a Guandla balun and I am sure you will be fine.
The MFJ-2012 looks good and good price. But as with most MFJ products I
derate their power handling by half. But I am

Thanks Ron,
I have always thought that the balun would serve the purpose. Good to see
your confirmation. I just went to the MFJ-2012 page (my antenna) and this
is what they say, " OCFDs need good

Paul,
I use on my 80m OCFD (not really a Windom) a 4:1 *Guandla current balun*
from* Balun Designs* (the company) a 4115ocf (their part number) balun

Re: #2meter

I have noticed some attenuation when the roof is wet, especially with UHF but not too bad. Ease of access, shortened feedline, exposure and corrosion, are all factors that make having it in the attic

How well does it work going through the roof materials? I’d like to do something similar.

Re: Ugly Balun

Yes. I have a 20m dipole in my attic. The ugly balun is about 8 or 9 turns ( RG-213) and the 1/2 wave dipole is 1/4" copper tubing.

Re: Cobweb antennas

Chad, I've started a group specifically for cobweb antennas elsewhere in groups.io.? Please join us if you're interested.

That’s very cool. I did not realize these were omni directional and did not need a rotator. Now I’m thinking maybe I should build one too. Thank you for adding this to the group.

Basically, Chad, the cobweb is one or more half-wave dipole(s) arranged in a horizontal square about 8.5 feet per side.? It looks similar to a hex beam.? It has four stretchers instead of six and

Cobweb antennas

I've searched the groups for one discussing cobweb antennas for HF -- preferably home-built and kits.? Is there one here?? If not I will start one.

Added an ugly balun air coiled with RG213 7 turns today. Put this on an Antron 99 and it seems to be working well. Anyone else use these?

Re: Cubical Quad #2meter Antenna

I do not know much about Quads, but common thinking is that you need to shorten the driven element to raise the resident freq.
How much or how little is for experimentation.

Cubical Quad #2meter Antenna
#2meter
So, I built a 2 meter cubical quad antenna.
Recently, i took some measurements with my nanovna.
As you can see the SWR is a little high at 2.42, and the reflect is about 20% with 80% of the power
