Nova Hitch Encoders
Hello everyone
My name is David and I live in Australia I have just joined the group, however, I have owned a Nova Hitch with encoders for about 5 years I was hoping someone could give me advice on acquiring or making the control box to drive the motors (encoders) to get the auto tracking to work I am aware that Charles has passed on and I fear that there will never be another mount like the Nova Hitch Cheers |
Re: Quarter Hitch Mount with Sky Commander on AM
Tony Blakesley
I bought it for a quick grab and go setup. I just bought an Innorel RT90C Carbon Fiber tripod that should be perfect for the mount and will be putting an old school Celestron/Vixen 90mm F9 Fluorite on it. I cant wait to try the setup out.?
The Sky Commander XP4 / encoders will be a nice addition.? |

Quarter Hitch Mount with Sky Commander on AM
The followings are quoted from the AD:
I am offering my trusty Quarter HItch alt-az mount.? This is the little brother of the Half-hitch mount and? I used it very successfully with my Sky90 scope for years.? These are no longer made.? It now gets virtually no use so I am putting it up for sale.? It has built -in encoders and includes a functioning Sky Commander unit (needs 9 volt battery) and a mounting plate for your scope. ? It also includes a counter weight to help in balancing your scope.? There is a 3/8" hole on the base for mounting to a tripod.? The only issue with the mount is that the rubber O-rings on the adjusting knobs have deteriorated and come off but this in no way compromises the function of the unit.? It is ideal for a grab and go set-up. Very smooth and beautifully made.? Thanks for looking. Len |
Re: What Halfhitch mounts do you have
U.K. based observer and imager.
I ordered a Nova Hitch ¡®off plans¡¯ after wanting one of Charles¡¯ mounts for many years but never being in financial position to order one (to carry my TSA102s) and ended up with a very different beast! A fantastic observing mount that has all the extra bells and whistles he added over the extended design period including the elusive hand tracking unit and TQR. It sits on a Berlebach Planet ash tripod and now (after conversing with Charles), a TEC140-ED! I use the Nexus WiFi device that hooks up to an iPad running SkySafari - attached via a ¡®gooseneck¡¯ arm so the screen is always in the right place for me. I¡¯m still getting to grips with the tracking and how to set the best rates, but have had some success imaging the sun with the TSA+Quark using a small chipped DMK camera. Despite the Nova becoming bigger and heavier (and a bit awkward to carry and store), it remains one of my most prized and best astro purchases. His mounts really do ¡®disappear¡¯ once in use.... Clear skies to you all Damian |
