Message from the GDHN Co-Chairs
Dear Global Digital Health Network, Rose and Carol are thrilled to announce that the Global Digital Health Network has a new co-chair who has come on-board as of January 23, 2025.? On behalf of the GDHN Advisory Council, we warmly welcome Yuliya Rakhimova, of Abt Global, as the new co-chair to replace Rose Nzyoka whose tenure ended in December, 2024.? Yuliya is a rising leader in digital transformation and sustainability at Abt Global, where she partners with Ministries of Health and other stakeholders to design and implement innovative digital tools for monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) and digital tools to strengthen person-centered healthcare. Since 2021, she focuses on bridging the digital divide and improving digital literacy among CHWs in underrepresented regions like Central Asia. A TechWomen 2024 alumna and certified Professional Scrum Master, Yuliya is passionate about human-centered design and adaptive management. Her work spans over a dozen countries, where she drives data-driven decision-making and deploys user-friendly, cost-effective solutions that promote equity and inclusion. She holds a B.S. in Applied Mathematics and Computer Science from Moscow State University. Rose has very much enjoyed serving as your co-chair over the last years with a successful GDHF event in Nairobi last year. The Network has continued to grow to nearly 4,000 members from 130+ countries and last year we hosted our first and largest Forum ever out of Washington DC with 1200+ in-person attendees and 2000+ attendees online. Although the year has started off with uncertainty for most of our organization members, we look forward to working together in this evolving field as we seek to share information, strengthen global relationships and improve healthcare for those who need it most around the world. As we are all aware, the recent executive orders and policy shifts under the current U.S. administration have had significant implications for global health programs, particularly in the areas of funding, implementation, and sustainability. These changes have presented challenges for many of our partner organizations and countries that rely on international aid to support essential health initiatives including digital health. ? Despite these challenges, this moment also presents an opportunity for countries and organizations to come together, strengthen regional collaborations, and explore innovative, sustainable solutions that reduce dependency on external aid. As the global digital health community, we have a shared responsibility to identify new pathways forward—leveraging local expertise, mobilizing domestic resources, and fostering stronger partnerships. ? Dear partners, On Data Privacy Day, and in the lead up to the WHO Executive Board Meeting, Transform Health is excited to unveil a new , containing resources and tools to advocate for and support more robust health data governance. The website includes:?
These resources are the result of strong collaboration with our many partners and contributions from thousands of stakeholders across the world - committed to a shared vision of stronger health data governance to harness health data for public benefit and improved health outcomes, while upholding people's rights and ensuring data is protected from misuse. Since its inception, Transform Health and partners have been championing this agenda, including developing tools and advocating for more effective and equitable legislation and regulation. We are calling for a global and regional framework - rooted in equity and rights-based principles - to be endorsed by governments through a World Health Assembly resolution and regional mechanisms, as a step towards more robust national frameworks.? We urge this issue to be prioritised on political agendas and hope these resources will support such efforts. 开云体育Dear Colleagues – Climate change is a growing and urgent health challenge, particularly for populations already facing health and economic disparities. is essential for integrating climate and health data, allowing policymakers and health leaders to make informed decisions as they build climate-resilient health systems. By combining satellite data, weather patterns, and health sector insights, we can better predict disease outbreaks, respond to changing health needs, and mitigate the impact of extreme weather events.? Digital Square at PATH with , , and the World Health Organization (WHO)-World Meteorological Organization (WMO) to support the development of DPI and digital public goods (DPGs) aimed at enhancing climate- and health-informed data systems. By leveraging cross-sectoral foundational DPI and DPGs, the consortium seeks to advance the operationalization of a shared to integrate climate and health data and improve global health resilience to the increasing threats posed by climate change.? Digital Square at PATH -- via the project – is supporting the WHO-WMO Joint Programme for Climate and Health to foster ecosystem mapping, synthesizing, standardizing, and sharing climate-informed health data services for human health related to climate change, extreme weather and climate, water, air quality, solar radiation, and other environmental hazards.?? ? One of the primary objectives of the DPI4CH project is the adaptation of Digital Square’s existing to encompass climate-informed digital health solutions.? The Guidebook is a compendium of (a subset of ), mature and open-source software and services that are adaptable to different countries and contexts. By expanding the GGG to include climate-informed health tools, platforms, content and use cases (a GGG4CH), PATH is helping stakeholders identify, implement, and scale open-source digital tools that support interoperable climate-health services as a resource for policymakers, procurement officials, and health leaders seeking to reduce climate change’s health and economic impacts at national and regional levels.? ?
