Changes to HQ Staffing Structure
Begin forwarded message: From: "keithlbird@..." <keithlbird@...> Subject: Fwd: Changes to HQ Staffing Structure Date: 7 August 2013 13:23:49 GMT+01:00 Dear club colleague, attached information regarding RSGB staff changes. Some of you will know Carlos, who was the key worker behind taking GB4FUN around the country, demonstrating amateur radio to school and college students. 73 Keith - G4JED RSGB Region 12 DRM - Kent -----Original Message----- From: Graham Coomber Sent: Wed, 7 Aug 2013 12:38 Subject: Changes to HQ Staffing Structure Dear Colleague, The staffing structure at HQ has been changed to take into account the reduced need for staff in the Finance and Commercial Departments as a result of forthcoming improvements to the IT system, and the need to contain overall management costs. Consultation with staff affected by the changes has now concluded and, whilst some of the reductions have been achieved by staff turnover, it is with regret that Carlos Eavis has been selected for redundancy and leaves the Society’s employment today. Carlos has worked for the Society for 12 years and we wish him well for the future. A revised organisation chart will follow in due course but, in the meantime, please continue to direct enquiries and email to the Amateur Radio department at HQ as normal. Establishment of President's Advisory Group
Begin forwarded message: From: "keithlbird@..." <keithlbird@...> Subject: Fwd: Establishment of President's Advisory Group Date: 7 August 2013 10:01:36 GMT+01:00 Dear club colleague, I'm forwarding the attached RSGB communication for your info and action where you wish to submit comments. As stated it will be printed in the next edition of RadCom. Best 73 Keith - G4JED RSGB Region 12 DRM - Kent -----Original Message----- From: Graham Coomber Sent: Wed, 7 Aug 2013 8:43 Subject: Establishment of President's Advisory Group Dear Colleague, Please find below the text which will appear in next week’s RadCom under “RSGB Matters” “The Board have decided that a complete review needs to be made of the RSGB national regional organisation. The thinking behind the creation of the Leadership Team in 2012 was that communication between the many specialist volunteers and the membership needs to improved so that members realise greater value from their membership. The Board has asked the President, Bob Whelan, to lead a Presidents Advisory Group (PAG) to undertake the review. Apart from the President, the PAG will comprise the Company Secretary, Rupert Thorogood, and Board member Phillip Brooks. The Terms of Reference for the PAG are : - to review the existing national regional structure of the Society - to formulate ideas for supporting members both nationwide and locally - to provide a provisional report to the Board by November The PAG intends to conduct the review by seeking advice and comments from as wide a group of the membership as possible. In addition it will be examining the way similar organisations to the RSGB structure their regional aspects. In particular the PAG will seek views on: - the types of regional support services appropriate to the RSGB membership including new entrants as well as existing members - the way these might be delivered - the role of RSGB committee members in the case of specialist support - how the regional services might be measured to establish their effectiveness - how web services should be part of any recommendations. The PAG welcomes your input to this review. Please send e mail comments to PAG@.... The members of the PAG will be running workshops at the Leadership Team meeting in September and will be attending both the Hamfest at Newark and the Convention to seek out your views and ideas”. To: g3trf@... From: gx3trf@... Date: Sun, 4 Aug 2013 12:02:19 +0100 Subject: [g3trf] Fwd: DRM NEWS Begin forwarded message: From: "keithlbird@..." <keithlbird@...> Subject: DRM NEWS Date: 4 August 2013 09:36:33 GMT+01:00 Dear club colleagues, a few items that I trust will be of interest for you and your members. RSGB CENTENARY Next Sunday and Monday Kent hosts the G100RSGB station, on Sunday the 11th from Darenth Valley between 10am and 6pm, then on Monday the 12th with the Hilderstone club near Ramsgate. Hopefully band conditions will be good and they will have a credible number of contacts. If you want to visit or help work from either station contact the club directly, or let me know and I will provide you with the contact details. EK CARRIER NEWSLETTER Attached is the 2nd edition of the 'EK Carrier' produced for amateurs in the East of the county, but that I believe will have a wider appeal. Thanks to Erwin G4LQI for the work put into producing this newsletter, sending me a copy and for allowing me to send this around to other clubs. ADVANCED EXAM SUCCESS I'm pleased to report that the Bredhurst club had a 100% pass with their seven candidates in the July Advanced exam. Congratulations to all those involved with the training and the candidates for putting in the effort to study. It's great to once again see that a number of clubs in the county offer Advanced level training, and I hope we continue to see candidates progress in their knowledge and experience through the clubs. RSGB MEMBERSHIP Many of you will have seen in last months RadCom a list covering several pages of new RSGB members. This was the initial take-up of the recent RSGB membership offer that attracted around 1,400 new members to the Society, which is a pleasing outcome from the Centenary celebration offer. I know a number of amateurs in Kent took up the offer, the key thing is now to retain as many of these new members next year when the renewal becomes due. Please remember that you may pay your membership annually, quarterly or monthly if it is easier for you in spreading the cost, a call to the RSGB on 01234 832700 will sort this for you. We have many long term RSGB members in Kent who over the years have continued to support the RSGB work through their membership, and I hope we encourage our newly licensed ones to join up and play a part in maintaining and developing this hobby through the RSGB, among all the changes we see around in technology and regulations. SPECIAL EVENT STATIONS The Kent Weald radio club will be operating GB1HA from the Headcorn airfield, on the weekend of the 17th/18th August, marking the Headcorn Airfield Military show. The is then operating GB2KAA (Kent Air Ambulance) from the 22nd of August to the 4th of September, from their marquee at the Headcorn airfield TN27 9HX. Brenda G0IJK
6
Dear All, I’ve just returned from the US and have heard some very sad news that Brenda Puncher, G0IJK has passed away. Brenda was a cornerstone of the Maidstone club from almost the time when I became licenced and was active on radio from her oast in Grafty Green, often to be heard on the club net or chatting to George VK5QG for hours on end until her illness a few years ago. I understand the funeral has already taken place at Charing and have only heard this news through family who read the obituary. I’ve so far been unable to speak with Derek but will update you all once I’m able to. Please pass this on to those who don’t have access to email. Kind Regards Nick G4ZXI

Not there tonight
Council were filling in the pot holes when it was realised that the concrete bed of Dickens road was broken. Hence road closed for 2 weeks - we have access but across ramps that would test any suspension. I have a tyre that is now losing air at an indecent rate!. Hope to be there next week - Also not available for the contest weekend as Eldest Grandson is doing a Skydive for charity & I really must attend. See you all soon. Ian G4UAQ.

Aerial Project (Request) With A Twist
Hi All. Due to my disabilities I am at a bit of a dilemma. As is known by a few members of the MYARS club, my main HF aerial is a "G6", the same wire "home brew" as (installed) at the club site. Like the clubs G6, mine is no longer working. I know the problem with both aerials, and both problems are completely different. Without wanting to run anybody down re the clubs G6, I can get it working correctly with the aid of interested assistance from able bodied volunteers who wish to know a little more about this aerial. Now for my request. For the "perfect" resolution to my problem requires someone who is good at height on a ladder. As a "secondary" resolution to my problem, I am asking for volunteers to help me with lifting some fiberglass supporting poles whilst also undoing some guys and checking some connections, then replacement of same. This project would be ideal for anyone who is interested in how this aerial works in order to build one and use it at home or for the benefits of the club. Also for those with the "serious" intent of studying for their foundation license' or for their next licence level irrespective of next license level. Bottom line, are there anyone willing to help me get my "G6" HF aerial back in use please. In the case of having at least one person fully confident on a ladder, you will also benefit from learning how to make one of these (all bands) / multi HF to 6 meter aerials, and the correct way to install it. I have everything required except the the people power to help me get my HF back on the air, lol. Tea and coffee and snacks no problem to serious people willing to help me please. Many Thanx In Advance. Ray, M0RAY.
