Tony has the ears!

Tryed tony again tonight and tried the old trick i did before by having two sets of headphones on and having a web sdr on aswell so i could hear my sending tone at the same time.. I could hear my signal in two sdr locations in usa but unable to hear tony, however had the spotter on and called him on 14mhz he must of called me back becuase he was spotted on the same freq when he was previously on 15mtrs, I told him, I was unable to copy him and to qsy to 30mtrs where again he was spotted on the same freq i was calling him, so he has the ears, but not im not able to read his transmittion just a faint dit and dar heard. pleased he made the effort ,as i was putting in some effort this end, even trying a spainish web sdr as he was being heard in spain? on the rnb spotter, well (canary Is)? Ho well try another day!
good evening all and if you get this Tony THANKS FOR TRYING!?

PS: had two good days on radio working Antarctica on 20mtrs? North Dakota today on 20mtrs? not bad on my simple wires, and finding out some who is very active on the ssb bands had passed their morse, and I was suprised when i found them on qrz. It gave me great pleasure to work her, and congratulate her on the air 40mtrs cw . wonderful this ham radio stuff!?

alive and kicking also!

Hi everyone nice to see so many old fellas still about. Did wonder about how clive was doing over in wales. Nice to see Keith had the same idea i did, about moving to Halstead, looked at a few places there last year, but still here in pikey land. I am and have been very active on most hf bands, despite removing all my antennas to move house, which didnt happen. Just had a lovely catch-up with GTQ on 40mtrs yesterday. Of course in touch with Lawrie, and almost ended up as full time carer for ULL lol! Poor old fella is not in good health!!. A couple of days ago I did just about get hold of Tony, on 12mtrs ssb/cw on my vertical, but very hard to recieve on my wires. I have seen Tony spotted on RNB and manged to get him to qsy to 30mtrs, but again he was getting me ok with my 180w but his qrp was a "bloody hard signal" to listen too. I really just got bits and bobs of his transmission. I know he was very near to west indies at the time, and him not being on air right now suggests he is now on the Island cycling around Antigua. Maybe he will stilloperate evenings after his return from day trips out on Island... I hope to be on xmas eve as per sked and reminded Peter to do the same. Been chasing the Centenary stations was doing great but now" really really"? struggling to get enough for Silver the award, especially as" I do not, and will no"t do ft whatever as I have my personal views of those modes. Peter has already replaced the HF yagi and? we will intend to repair the vhf/uhf ones, of course we need better weather to get everything back up as was. Greetings to everyone and hope to talk on 40 sked soon with many of you. For those that dont/cant make the sked MERRY CHRISTMAS! ES HAPPY HEALTHY NEW YEAR! G0ujk Colin.

Hello Gang,

We are approximately halfway across the Atlantic our position is 25.1N & 38.2W, we have another three days at sea before we reach Antigua We are presently two hours behind GMT but that will change tomorrow night to three hours and will eventually be fours when we arrive at our first port of call in Antigua

I was hoping to be able to give you some firm sked times and frequencies by this time. However, although the predictions are good for bands from 20 thru' to 10m the conditions are quite unstable with heavy and deep QSB such that stations that start the QSO with S9 signals suddenly drop to unreadable levels within minutes, barely enough time to exchange basic details.

Therefore all I can do at this time is repeat my normal preferred frequencies I usually start the day on 20m and move up in frequency as the day progresses to 15m,12m & 10m (if open). SSB frequencies are 14,225, 21.225 24.960 28.365. CW 14.058,21.058, 24.908 and 28.058. As dusk sets in locally to me I will also try 10.116Mhz.

Unfortunately ship generated QRM prevents the use of 18Mhz. which is one of my favourite bands.

If we find more stable conditions we will circulate a firmer sked plan.

Hopefully we will catch you on the wireless

Re: Hi Cliftonites everywhere—

Hi everyone,
73 from down here in Herne Bay .... as Mark 'GQT says I have been dabbling dabble with the? 80m CW contests giving points to the Drowned Rats Group. Active in most of the major CW and RTTY contests.? I have a garden shed shack which is really a pretty decent wooden cabin half filled with radios and the other half full of old motorcycles.

A doublet antenna in my "postage stamp" garden does surprisingly well, spend a lot of time on FT8 and FT4 outside of contests

Memories of the Clifton were rekindled the other day on a visit to Kings College Hospital as I drove past what was the New Cross Tavern at the top of Clifton Rise then past? 225 New Cross Road. I remember cycling from my parents place in Hither Green to Friday evening club nights - not sure I would be doing that now for lots of reasons hi hi. ? 225 now looks very smart - not sure about the surrounding area and the awful traffic though.

Best wishes to everyone for Christmas and a prosperous New Year.

P.S. Keep me on your list Martin? :-)

clifton xmas eve impromptu net update 1.

hi all,

There is radio life out there! Have heard from Mark, steve, clive keith and tony/ suzanne so far( dec 16) but no martin dcg--.

Mark and Keith recommend 40m as a better inter g bet on xmas eve rather than the traditional 80m . Thus can I suggest qsy to say 7.177 plus/minus from 12 to 1330 utc and try 20/15 /12 and 10 for Tony HUZ after that on his newly published F's ? Should be about
9.30 AM for him stuck in harbour in Antigua far from home at Christmas poor devil!

Incidentally 7.177 mhz is one of the favourite f c for the annual KW radio revival weekend 7 and 8 th jan 2023 - see PW and Radcom write up and the KW-radio @ groups.io user group. Yours true will be qrv ( GB3KW) at the Cray valley scout hall qth in Eltham SE London and there will be several other KW special event call signs on air that weekend.

And hope to hear the Swedish Alexanderson test tx on 17.1 khz on the 24th - VLF anyone? Well dreams are still free!

cheers

Mni tnx for update Steve (bpq)—

In 2020 Martin G0dcg emailed to say about 32 cliftons e addresses ?were still listed on his records. However I guess a few will be SK by now ( we lost about 4 at Cray valley during covid) - can you update us Martin dcg please?

No news ?from tjat Tony or Colin UJK here but assume all well? Have monitored HUZ on the RBN network from time to time but no joy- bet he is bicycling somewhere exotic!

On a personal note have had cataracts fetled at Moorfields hosp -considerable improvement and ?can almost drive ?safely at night again - good old NHS!

Catch you on the radio folks ( sorry Tony!)

I am slowly gravitating towards the low bands with lots of receive antenna testing taking place at the Scouts site where there is space for beverages and loops. My biggest challenge is the Gilwell herd of Fallow deer keep damaging the low wires! I have also started to rebuild for VHF and up with 21 DXCC heard over the last 24 hours on 144MHz Meteor scatter. Hope to sort out 2/70/23 TX in the new year.

I now have quite a lot of experience with the Versatowers so if G7ULL has one of those I may be able to help. My welding isnt very good though and I wouldnt trust it on someone else's mast.

I have visitors arrivong on Xmas Eve. I will put a reminder in my calendar, but suspect I wont be able to show up on the bands.

I think groups.io only charge for over 100 members on a list - no danger of that here !

Hi all I am still around although not on the air, although Keith G4TJE has recently rekindled my interest. I still have my rigs IC7000 and FT950 but lack antennas. I might (when it warms up a bit) and investigate the loft. You all have a good Christmas and New year. 73 Clive G0PPO

Re: Hi Cliftonites everywhere—

Hi Everyone
Just to let you know that I am still about and recently started to get back into this radio lark. Last year I moved to a little village called Halstead which is between Orpington and Sevenoaks. The QTH is about 185metrs above sea level so has a good take off. Since we moved in we have done quite of work on the house so haven't be able to get on the air until recently. I only have aerials in the loft at the moment but have managed to work? a lot of stations on 10mters recently which was good fun. I have worked special event stations on 40 meters so may be able too come up on Xmas eve if the net can be on 40. Nice to hear from everyone and still involved in the hobby one way or another.

Hi Lawrie,
? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? Thought I would respond to your email to let you know that ( I'm still out here ).
It is highly likely that I will be around for a qso on xmas eve but I think you should consider using 40 Mtrs.
The last 2 weeks have been excellent for inter-G on 40 Mtrs and not so good on 80 Mtrs.
This year I have been doing some of the 80 Mtr CC contests using the callsign G3RAT and G2D along with Bob ( G4DBW )
?supporting the Drowned Rats Radio Group which has been very enjoyable.
Spoke to Colin ( G0UJK ) and Peter ( G7ULL ) some weeks back on 40 Mtrs after many moons, and it was lovely to catch up.

If anyone fancies a chat on 40, I'm in the shack most mornings from about 10.30 through till 15.00 up till January 1st.

Regards to all.

Mark G0GQT.

Xmas 2022 already-blimey!

First off - this message is? to test if any Cliftons are still out there! I know Tony and Suzanne are out on the briny somewhere ( carib?) and Peter G3ULL has collapsed mast trouble whilst Frank G3WMR is still very much QRV but are any of you pilgrims still on group.io?

Thus here is Maureen’s and my Yuletide message ( yes still both qrv but shivering in our vests these days!) - bestest Christmas greetings one and all and hope for a better non covid and economic New Year in ‘23.

No plans for a Christmas radio? net this year since sparse take up in 2021 but will listen on 3.720 mhz 12 to 1300 utc on xmas eve ( saturday) while peeling the sprouts in case any Cliftons anywhere fancy a quick commiseration? ( HUZ, BPQ, FNZ, WMR, ULL ?) with yours true?

And sadly I believe 开云体育 plan to charge for their service some time soon so this may be the last digital broadcast Q- no other FOC web service is known to me ( BPQ?) at the moment so the very best 73 ( and 88’s) to all Cliftonairs anywhere and a better HNY anyway!

Re: Clifton Ccc - Christmas 2021 NeT

A good way to find any specific station on CW is using the reverse beacon network (RBN). A search for Tony reveals he was on 20m today and heard in France.

These spots can also be served by several DX clusters, so if you have a cluster client with alarms (like the VE7CC one??then you can get your computer to bleep when any of the RBN receiving stations gets a CQ from G0HUZ/mm. I worked Tony on one of his previous travels using this system.

Cheers
