A day at sea
开云体育? ---------- Forwarded message --------- From: <tony.cadney@...> Date: Tue, 21 Jan 2025 at 13:44 Subject: A day at sea To: Suzanne Cadney G0LUZ <suzanne.cadney@...> Hello Gang! ? We are now at sea again today, on way to Williamstat Curacao (PJ2). Again we will be either on 15m 12m or 10m? To assist finding the SSB frequency will send a couple of bursts of CQ in CW in order that RBN may identify the my operating frequency………….Unfortunately most of my favoured SSB frequencies always seem to be occupied. We are now four hours behind GMT so the earliest I normally commence ops at about 1400hrs GMT.? As I stated before the propagation is totally different in the tropical zone, with chronic solar ‘drop-out’ around noon. For the sailors among you we are now 12.1N & 64.5W on a bearing of 271 degrees at 16.5knts. Hope to catch on the wireless! ? 73 de Tony es Suzanne. ? PS. The WX is very humid and cloudy with bursts of tropical rain and 30c |

It was just after 1515 in the afternoon and I was hearing Tony well so waited to see who might call, after he finished?with Jimmy in texas. There were about three stations?calling but m0bpq almost blew my eardrums off as he went through and had? a good 10min qso with tony. I know he has a big station but it was a good solid copy!? 559 and 599 reports, its now 1538 and tony is in the back of the radio. well done chaps nice contact between tony and steve. heard and confirmed by g0ujk on my wire dipole. |

Re: DATA AFS M0BPQ:
Hi Bob,
?
Club calls are classified differently so I would expect that Steve F can hold both GHN as a club call plus RFC as his personal call. I am the custodian of G5YC, and the "club call" clearly appears on the paperwork. Assuming it keeps being validated in the ofcom portal that is! I see the call appears in the RSGB yearbook, which gets its data from OFCOM, so GHN is still alive at least.?
?
As no individual or club is obliged to be a member the RSGB. One benefit to RSGB membership/affiliation is the ability to enter RSGB contests. As the clifton has wound down, I assume that no one is paying the affiliation fees, so you, me and Mark need to find someone else to bat for in contests.
?
Not that I particularly care, TBH, I am not that interested in domestic contests anymore. I have shown up in AFS as I had weekend time on my hands.

Re: DATA AFS M0BPQ:
Hi Steve and Mark,
Worked Steve but missed you Mark. Lively contest with plenty of activity. Finally got fldigi fired up with N1mm+ logger for psk 63 and with ? my? 2 Tone and? Gritty decoder setup for RTTY? managed 201 Q's of casual contesting. Send my points into the "CDXC SE" group although I seem to be the only contesting participant .... they are all probably DX chasing hi hi . ? ?
?
Guess the affilation to RSGB went long ago when the "Clifton Contest Group " was wound up, I assume due to lack of interest hi hi . Probably just Mark GQT, Steve BPQ and myself still active in contests with links to the Clifton.?
?
Despite the winding up of the affiliated society , bizarrely in my opinion, G3GHN and G8GHN still survive:-
?
From QRZ.com .....
G3GHN is listed with Steve Fletcher (G4RFC) as the licensee with no mention of? Clifton ARS? and QSL via G0NGP . If Steve also still holds G4RFC and G8DDW he will lose all but one of those calls ?
G8GHN is listed as being held by Jack Veaney? "on behalf of Clifton ARS"? ? ?
?
If anyone is interested,? guess those callsigns will disappear once OFCOM finally sort out phase 2 and 3 of their licensing reorg ?
?
?
73 and Happy New Year to all
?
Bob? Hammond G4DBW (and G8HBA shortly to disappear hihi )

Hi Mark,
?
I assume the Clifton no longer pays RSGB fees, so it is not an affiliated society and, therefore, is not on the list of clubs you can enter on behalf of. I sent in a log obo the RSGB contest club as I don't have any other affiliation.
?
It was nice to work with you today - I haven't done RTTY for many years, and I didn't intend to today, but I ended up setting up during the contest and was only on for the last hour. 89 Qs at my end wont win anything!

DATA AFS M0BPQ:
开云体育
Hi All,
? ? ? ? ? Hope you're all well.
Just finished in the RSGB DATA AFS Contest where I worked Steve (M0BPQ) but unfortunately missed Bob (G4DBW).?
Perhaps someone can tell me if the Clifton ARS still exists on the RSGB list of clubs.?
I noticed, and read of Steve's success in the 2 Meter trophy, crediting his points to the Clifton club, who are still listed on the VHF page.
When I looked for the Clifton on? the HF page of clubs, they don't seem to be there.?
Steve, are you uploading your log, and will it be credited to Clifton ARS. As if you are, then I will add my 187 contacts to that as well.
Hope you read this in time as logs need uploading by midnight Monday night.
Tony and Suzanne, hope to work you soon.
HNY to all.
Best Regards.
Mark G0GQT.

WX conditions at sea
---------- Forwarded message --------- ?Message 3 from HUZ\MM- sadly WX delay until Madiera ( next week?) ? de lawrie g4faa ( sunday 5th)From: <tony.cadney@...> Date: Sun, 5 Jan 2025 at 12:54 Subject: WX conditions at sea To: Suzanne Cadney G0LUZ <suzanne.cadney@...> Hello Gang, ? Please accept our apologies as we didn't make it on the air yesterday. By the time we got out on deck to our operating position on deck 11 aft. ?the wind had strengthened ?a force 7 propelling heavy rain horizontally. making it impossible to operate. Today we have no rain but all the deck furniture has now been secured due the ship pitching and rolling in the heavy swell as we leave the Bay of Biscay and enter the English Channel. So no ops today, and tomorrow we are in Portsmouth . it is very unlikely will will be able to operate until we return to calmer and warmer climbs later next week as we head south to Madeira ? Rest assure we will circulate the group once we are back on the wireless. ? 73 de Tony es Suzanne |

A day at sea
Hi gang----message 2 from Tony huz and co? de g4faa ( sat eve)? HNY alll! ---------- Forwarded message --------- From: <tony.cadney@...> Date: Sat, 28 Dec 2024 at 18:43 Subject: A day at sea To: Suzanne Cadney G0LUZ <suzanne.cadney@...> Hello fellow radio ops, Tomorrow we have a sea day ?as we will be on way to Arrecife Lanzarote and we hope to be on the radio most of the day weather permitting. Unfortunately although we have already had a number of QSOs on differing bands we have not been able to formulate enough data on the propagation to make fixed schedules. This partly because most of our operating time has been whilst in port with ship moored in very close to very high ground and mountainous areas which screened clear paths to the horizon. Making operating difficult, as Colin G0UJK will testify to. We intend to start on 18Mhz then move up to 21Mhz and on to 24Mhz. Best to check the Reverse Beacon Network to find what band we are working. If conditions allow we will QSY to SSB frequencies 18.130 , 21.285, & 24.950.........All these will be +/- 5khz..........Sorry we can't be more accurate. We will now be working our way back to the UK slowly via Lanzarote, Madeira then Lisbon then crossing the Atlantic to the Caribbean and Central America......So plenty of rare squares to work over several weeks. Hope catch you on the wireless! ? 73 es HNY de Tony and Suzanne ? |
