I just checked and I see that not every one got that message. Not sure how they selected who did? It looks like only about one-third of the list got them, maybe there are more coming.

I guess be on the look out Graham and other who did not.

Over the last few weeks, you may have gotten an email asking you to re-verify your subscription to this or other groups.io lists. This is a legit email and if you want to remain active, you should verify it is really you and not a bogus account. This is Groups.io’s way at taking out SPAM.

Hi!
It is already some time ago that I wrote here at this place.

Just a quick note for those who have their DSTAR gateways connected to the ircDDB network:
The ircDDB webserver crashed yesterday early morning.

We have already a new cloud system running parallel since beginning of the year, but still did not do the final step and move all data to that system.

I talked to our provider and they found that the hardware where our old VM runs on is completly down.

They will need a few hours to fix it and we will hopefully see it back shortly.

The ircDDB network still works full functional, the IRC servers in the 2 groups are up, but status pages and the registration system are currently not available.

Michael DL1BFF fixed an issue with the dynamic DNS feature which was reported, it should work now again.

We decided to take this issue as a final trigger and complete the move to the cloud system within next days.

The old server still run an outdated CentOS version with very old perl and php scripts. This needs to be adjusted to work on current supported Linux versions.

The server was on air 24/7 since 2015 without any real failure.

Before we had 2 servers located in Switzerland for some years and at the early beginning in 2008 we started on a server from the German Amateur Radio Club.

We hope to have the old system back again tomorrow and want to switch to the new cloud based system until Christmas:

With that we should hopefully be save for another 8 years. :-)

Hello John,

I’ll be glad to share the g2_link set up document with you. It is NOT a script but a series of installation steps to follow. Please make sure you read this document that explains how we tested the g2_link product.?/g/g2-link/files/g2_link-v4.0-QA.pdf

The set up doc is being sent in a separate email directly to you.

A point of issue, REF181A is an alias for XLX181A (). If you are not familiar with XLX reflectors, those reflectors answers to dplus connection requests as well to XRF and DCS protocols. g2_link can initiate connection requests to XRF and DCS protocols only. REF connects are handled by the AA4RC dplus application. So a g2_link enabled system will call via XRF181AO or DCS181AO to connect to 181A.

It may seem confusing at first and can be a challenge for RF users. There are sample scripts to employ (which need to updated).

For now…

Terry?

Re: Installing g2_link on G3 gateway

Tony,

g2_link will do the job. The only very small issues are users programming their radios will need to use a few different command codes in UR position 8 (e.g. O to request linking to DCS or XRF instead of L), and two dashboards, one for DPlus, the other for g2_link.

There are other options, though I am not recommending them, since you have G3 and an important callisign registration database that the group wants to continue to offer. G3 with g2_link is really the simplest solution.

But another option is to offer the Registration part of G3 with the actual G3 gateway functions disabled, then use one of the open source gateways for that function. The REGIST callsign registration system operated by the USTrust team is essentially the same.

Our club (Mt Diablo Amateur Radio Club and its W6CX DV repeater) did that for several years. When we switched gateways from G3 to ircDDBGateway, I installed G3 on an inexpensive cloud server and disabled the gateway functions. The cloud server provided access to G3's registration app, which at that time contained over 2,000 callsigns registered there.

It was not particularly difficult to do that, but of course using G3 with g2_link is much simpler. Plus, Terry KA8SCP provides excellent support for g2_link.

Subject: [g2-link] Installing g2_link on G3 gateway

Hi,

I'm with a D-STAR user group which has a long standing Icom repeater stack with G3 gateway. As this is an important site for USTRUST registrations, we want to keep our G3 gateway intact, but add connectivity to XRF and DCS reflectors, as I run an XLX reflector that our user base is unable to access (I also run a dplus reflector which is heavily used by the system).

As I am more familiar with the open source systems (ircDDB, xlxd, etc), I'm doing the research for adding the capabilities to access these systems to the gateway, and am working with the repeater admin who does the hands on work with the system.

I found out about g2_link by asking around the OpenDV group, and got led here. g2_link looks like one of the pieces we need to upgrade the system, and I would like to get it installed on our system. What do I (or more correctly, what does our admin) need to do to get g2_link running on our system?

Hi Tony,

FWIW

The VK5RWN system is an Icom G3 system and has been running the g2_link for several years and does well connecting to XLX reflectors using the prefix XRF for the respective XLX reflector.

Cheers,

Re: Installing g2_link on G3 gateway

Tony, what system is this for?

As long as the XLX reflector your users want to connect to allows for XRF and/or DCS connections, then g2_link will work.

The OTA command would look like XRF978DO to “open” a connection to XLX978 Module D.?

Make sure you read the QA document in the Files section of this forum:?/g/g2-link/files/g2_link-v4.0-QA.pdf

I would like to install g2_link as well if that will allow users to connect to an XLX Server I am working on from a G3 system. Is there a script you can send me as well? assuming this will allow us to connect to the XLX Server. Thanks.?

I’ve disabled monlink. I use cron files to make changes to link status for various nets.

In the zip file are some scripts to announce the link status of a dplus and g2_link connection. Modify them as they work for you.

You can also use a persistence link script which will read the g2_link.cfg has for default connections if you want to have a default XRF/DCS

The bottom of the setup doc had two options for displaying the two dashboard… one for dplus the other for g2_link.

Side by side view looks like?

Inline looks like?

Re: Looking for info on installing g2_link on our repeater.

Hello Terry,

No rush. The repeater itself is running, so there is local communication, just nothing via reflectors. It's been that way for a while. The repeater is the W0MXW 440 DStar repeater as listed at??It is not connected to the internet as the GatewayServer is being redone at my home QTH. My current plan is to backup the G2 data, I found a page/script for doing that, and then I'll reinstall CentOS and Gateway Server 3.1. One person mentioned using Rocky but I saw a post in one of the groups that it was missing some packages. Current plan was to place it on the 30C reflector. I also have to figure out what the old admins might have used for remote access and/or setup something new. I'm told this server might actually be the access method for the control of the Fusion repeater as well, and something else I need to figure out. So a number of open questions on the setup remain. And I haven't probably been to the repeater site in decades so want to actually see what is there and how things are interconnected (the gateway computer was delivered to my house by someone who have site access and just pulled it from the site). Probably grab some pictures with things like serial numbers, although they might be in the club's hardware database.

g2_link was mentioned in an article that some one printed out for me as they know I am working on getting the GatewayServer back running again. From what I have been told, one of the hams frequents one of the XREF reflectors (I don't recall which one). At one point, before I was on the tech committee, I know there was discussion about upgrading something to get the new reflectors on the old repeater, and I suspect that was g2_link, but that's a guess on my part, and I don't know that work was ever actually done (I recall there was some discussion that the old repeater hardware didn't support what they wanted to do). So this may actually be an old request coming back. If there is a pointer to verify if things were setup, I can take a look.

Thanks,

Eric, KF0S
