Re: Looking for info on installing g2_link on our repeater.

开云体育

Hello Eric….saw your message on the dstar-admin group about g2_link as well. I have out of town company and have been focused on that.

?

The g2_link install is a manual step-by-step install. With deprecation of CentOS 7, there may be some issues with the retrieving of some of the components. I don’t “publish” the steps because the original author wanted to keep this “closed”.

?

You stated that your “users” asked for g2_link…. What repeater is this? How do they know about g2_link? Do you know what the actual configuration is? Is it G2 or G3?

?

Subject: [g2-link] Looking for info on installing g2_link on our repeater.

?

Long story, but our old date repeater had a controller failure so we replaced it with a new Icom repeater (dual mode). Our old admin left the state and the replacement admin has been out of ham radio. we had an interim person who replaced the repeat and noted the GatewayServer had some non-standard ports. Due to time constraints and the lack of availability to get at the repeater, he had to beg off the project. So, now it sort of falls on me since no one else in the club is stepping up. The interim person suggested we reinstall the OS and software on the computer. I was able to get the computer from the repeater from the site and set it up at home. The power supply fan was squealing so I replaced that. Now to think about reinstalling the software. I think I have some info on CentOS and Gateway 3.1 software and reviewing that. One thing our members asked for is installing g2_link for the additional reflectors. It seems that I can get some directions here on how to do that once the g3 software is installed, so just starting that ball rolling.

Thanks in advance for any help,

Eric, KF0S?

?Hello Darrell, sorry to hear of the passing of the previous D-STAR admin.

Not sure if you have already let the USTRUST folks know how to reach you??

One of the docs to read on g2_link?/g/g2-link/files/g2_link-v4.0-QA.pdf
has some good information in it. I’ll email you separately regarding the installation of g2_link.

Good morning Rich,

On my g2_link system, there is a cron job that runs every morning at 2AM where the gwys.txt as well as the valid_users.txt files are updated.

cd /root/g2_link

/bin/rm -rf /root/g2_link/gwys.txt

wget

Re: XLX reflectors - X shell script option

While messaging with another D-STAR admin, about the coexistence of dplus and g2_link and how it used to be with a single command structure. Oh well. It did give me an idea.... dplus supports using 0-9 and A-Z in the 7th position and X in the 8th spot to execute a shell script. So maybe we can make it easier for users to use dplus to change to an XRF/DCS reflector?

I created a test script, exec-U.sh in the /dstar/scripts directory, made it executable with the chmod +x command:
===========================
#!/bin/bash
# script to automatically connect
# A port connect to DCS351D using the g2_link tool
# disconnect first
/usr/bin/nc -u -w 1 10.0.0.2 30003 <<EOF
um A
EOF
#
sleep 3
# disconnect dplus
echo "?????? U" >/dstar/tmp/link-a
#
sleep 3
# first connect with netcat to port
# then connect to DCS351D
/usr/bin/nc -u -w 1 10.0.0.2 30003 <<EOF
lm ADCS351D
EOF

exit 0
=====================
I then added a new entry in to the DV memory of my ID-51A with a NAME of whatever you want and then the CALL SIGN:______UX (6 spaces, the U and then an X)

Transmitted to the repeater:

Re: Welcome new member

right on Jim!
At one time we could link to REF with g2-link but that got shut off by the dplus guy. Not very neighborly.
My thought on the g2-link and dplus listening to same commands... the unlink could be processed by BOTH. the one who was not actually linked would just ignore it or error it out and move on. what happens when dplus gets an unlink when not linked??? likely the same.

CMRG has used g2-link for a long time on our 3 systems. We also have one of our D-STAR running both dpllus and g2-link.

XLX reflectors

Hello again...

Quite often I get asked if we can connect to XLX reflectors with our repeater. Interesting enough, the answer appears to be probably!?

I wrote a little script called "xlx351d-a-start.sh":

#!/bin/bash
# script to automatically connect
# A port to XLX351D using the g2_link tool
# disconnect first
/usr/bin/nc -u -w 1 10.0.0.2 30003 <<EOF
um A
EOF
#
sleep 3
# disconnect dplus
echo "? ? ? ?U" >/dstar/tmp/link-a
#
sleep 3
# first connect with netcat to port
# then connect to XLX351D
/usr/bin/nc -u -w 1 10.0.0.2 30003 <<EOF
lm AXLX351D
EOF
exit 0
=======================

Made it executable and then ran it. Sure enough it connected. The gateway was registered on the XLX dashboard with the DCS protocol (that is how it is supposed to be if you look at the gwys.txt file). After a minute or so, it times out.

g2_link.log file shows:

Wondering why the XLX version does not?

Re: Welcome new member

?Hello all,

Thanks for those of you that have replied. Great to hear from you and that your systems are playing mostly OK.

So, about my “home” system, WB1GOF. It has been a dextra/g2_link system for a long time. I spent a lot of time messaging with Ramesh VA3UV over the years and we’ve seen some changes. I too enjoyed the single set of over the air commands we used to enjoy until we were “cut off” on REFxxx linking. So obviously we had to make a change.

WB1GOF has an eclectic group of users. Some that are afraid to make any change to the connectivity because they make break something and they just use the system as they find it. The other group will try new connections but only use the dplus commands and almost never any of the g2_link commands.

It has both B and C modules connected. B was the original and is by default connected to REF050C. The C side I used to connect to XRFs but since I’ve created an XLX reflector that cross connects REF038D to the XLX/XRF as well as transcoded to DMR/Fusion now, it is mostly parked there.

Ramesh and I had created the much bigger Canadian CanNet environment for the Friday night nets. That group of reflectors (XLX and XRF) with a bunch of gateways homes there.

Other g2_link systems I manage are the KS1R and AF2A systems and on both of those systems the users have grown to understand how the differences between dplus and g2_link commands. LU3AOC in Buenos Aries is also a g2_link system I set up and they too connect to the XLX/XRF/DCS world.

I am currently working on converting WL7CWI to a g2_link system now. So we are still actively deploying them.

73 for now…

Hi Everybody,

I've been running g2_link on the VK5REX repeater/gateway here in Port Lincoln South Australia for a long long time now.

I fondly remember the early days when g2_link could also handle dplus connections as well as Dextra and DCS. It was very handy having unified link/unlink commands across the three linking protocols. As a plus g2_link would only send received transmissions through to the connected reflector/system if the operator had "CQCQCQ? " in the URcall field. This allowed you to unlink from a dplus reflector without interrupting an existing QSO.

I saw a link to a good explanation of the reflector types and the various gateway software packages on how they access the reflectors. Take a look at?

Re: Welcome new member

G'day Terry, Ben,

I joined up a few months ago to learn about D-Star admin bits.? I'm helping out to admin an old G2 system (VK6RWN) with a full icom stack (RP2C plus 2m, 70cms and 23cms but 23cms if offline at the moment waiting on an antenna).?

Managed to get ircddb added to it but somehow in the process upset DSM -

I do have access to G3 software but the repeater location and the lack of an upgrade path from CentOS5 means a G3 upgrade is a "forklift change" which is difficult at this time.

Still trying to get hold of a radio that supports D-Star.? But living in Perth, Western Australia .... the more esoteric the item, the longer the wait!

Best regards,
Adam VK6XR

Hi,

g2_link is currently installed on the VK5RWN D-Star Icom repeater (23cm is currently turned off due to no demand and as a power saving measure) stack here in Adelaide, the Capitol City of the State of South Australia, Australia.

  • PF95IE
  • ????????????? (you may need to allow for a security exception to access the VK5RWN dash board.)

There is only a small group of D-Star users here in Adelaide, though a number of users also use hot spots and log into VK5RWN C as a de-facto reflector to keep communications local.

Over a 14 day period we would have somewhere around 18 - 22 unique call signs logged through VK5RWN.

We also have a number of DX stations who also log into VK5RWN C and this some times comes as a surprise, though time differences can be problematic for active QSO's.

Cheers,

VK5RWN D-Star Administrator.
