My 857 was also bent just enough to miss the contact. Filter did not work. Inspection fixed it.

A wall wart--not batteries of any kind come with it.

I didn't even receive a wall wart with mine, just a (~22g) zipcord
with a DC plug on one end and bare wires on the other). I bought it
from a reputable shop so I wouldn't expect anything to be missing.
I also noticed when I opened the case to add a Collins CW filter
that one of the pins on the board for the filter was bent over at
about a 30 degree angle. It straightened without any difficulties
so I didn't worry about it but now I'm wondering if maybe my rig was
a return.

At least in the USA, the FT-817 comes with zipcord with the rig power
connector on one end, and an empty internal 8-AA tray. I've heard
some say something about a wall-wart power supply, but i'm guessing
that's what they got with the FNB-72 internal pack, as I've never
heard of a wall-wart good enough to transmit with.

Put a powerpole on the end of the zipcord, and another one on a
gel-cell, if you intend to do much battery operation, as a set of AAs
is good for about 3 hours quiet monitoring, and can do short
transmissions during the first hour of that without going undervoltage
and shutting off.

When I got my 817 in january I didn't get a wall wart. I check in the
manual, the wall wart is extra. In the front of the manual lists with
drawing all parts that are stock and you whould have gotten in the box

This may have changed - when I got mine about a year ago, it came
with a wall wart IIRC.

The purpose of the wall wart was *only* charging. It is not
recommended for powering the radio.

Come to think of it--maybe I did not get the wall wart with it. I think I already had on for my old FT50RD HT, and have two for a VX5R (a buddy ran over this VX5R smashing it so he gave me his charger).

The wall wart is not powerful enough to power the rig in TX other than at lowest power setting, but even this is not recommended. It is sufficient to provide charging for internal packs while listening to the rig.

The FT-817 comes with a:
Power cord
"AA" battery holder
strap
manual
and a 3-piece 6meter, 2meter & 70cm antenna

at the time that I bought my FT-817, Yaesu had put together an additional kit which you could purchase with the radio for an additional amount of money which included:

nicad battery pack
Nicad charger (wall wart)
vinyl case
and DTMF microphone.

The people who are talking about the wall wart are the people who bought their radio and also bought the extra Yaesu accessory package (while it was available).

I hoope that this answers any questions.
