ATX - BNC or PL259?
Hi All,
I know, another ATX question...... I've read several threads on the ATX where there have been problems with both the ATX BNC connection (getting stuck) and poor performance via the rear SO-239 on the back of the FT-817. For those that own the ATX, what has the prefrence been - BNC or PL259?. Do they make a PL259 to BNC with a right angle so that you could use the ATX BNC type and use it on the rear connector? Having used both the BNC & the PL-259 (type M) with the plumber's
delight, I can tell you it doesn't make much difference to the efficiency --or lack thereof-- of the antenna. At least *I* didn't notice any difference. The BIGGEST thing was detuning it with one's body - get a hand anywhere *near* that sucker & the signals just DISAPPEAR.... If you DO decide to ignore everyone's advice about the BNC, *please* do yourself a favor & change it for a steel-spiked adapter. That brass thing that came with the antenna is WORTHLESS. "When I get around to it," I am going to make some type of mount a la Vern's MP-1 bracket & feed it with coax. But that's mainly because I enjoy building things for this radio, not 'cause I think it will turn the ATX into a DX signal magnet! |

your chances! 2. Steel is magnetic, brass isn't; maybe you can use a small magnet to pull the spike out when it breaks.
