Z-11 and Tokyo HiPower

Has anyone on the group used their FT-817 with a Z-11 autotuner and a Tokyo
HiPower amp? I have all the components but have not yet tried them with the amp.
I assume the tuner would be installed between the amp and the antenna feedline
but please chime in if that is incorrect.

Based on the ongoing discusions I would wait this out for a bit - I
don't think its wise to just try it out ( I have and seem to have been lucky ).
It indicates that with high SWR there is a chance of burning the relay
contacts. I'm not sure what the larger toroid does to satisfy the tuners working at
higher levels but I'm sure someone will have an answer.

You are correct as to placement. It works fine, but TUNE with the amp in
STANBY/OFF, using only 2-3 watts from the barefoot FT-817, then, when tuning is
COMPLETE, switch on the amp, and enjoy!----KC3VO, Bob.

Yes, that is where it would be placed.

I have used this combination for over a year with great success. You need to
have the amp in bypass mode when you tune so the Z-11 is not switching high
power. If your match is not close and you forget my experience is that the
SWR protection in the amp will shut it down anyway. I wouldn't depend on this
for normal operation!

hi -
i completely agree with the suggestion of doing initial tune with amp
in standby mode - tuner should easily handle the 50w output of the
amp.

This is just what I am doing with my FT817 and HFPackr Amp.
