Yaesu" FT-817 is in the ball park with others when it comes to RF
power out. The following readings were taken using FM mode, dc
voltage at 13.6 volts constant and into a 50 ohm load.

I checked it with 2 SWR/Power meters. On 20 metres, it gives 500
milliwatt (full power selected on FT-817). External 13,8V power
supply, no batteries inside.

Rene,
If you have an internal batery pack installed, try disconnecting it
from the 817 and run with the 13.8 V DC supply only. If all is well,
you may have a battery problem. Maybe overly

they do use a variable xformer & the rig looks at the primary as the
counterpoise. I'm going to wait for the July QST article. I

I had a similar problem when the internal rechareable battery voltage
dropped too low. Extenal 12 V was OK. Recharged the internal battery and
the power was OK...
