Rene, If you have an internal batery pack installed, try disconnecting it from the 817 and run with the 13.8 V DC supply only. If all is well, you may have a battery problem. Maybe overly

I talked with Robert at the phone # listed on the web site. He told me they do use a variable xformer & the rig looks at the primary as the counterpoise. I'm going to wait for the July QST article. I

Rene, I had a similar problem when the internal rechareable battery voltage dropped too low. Extenal 12 V was OK. Recharged the internal battery and the power was OK... Chuck Carpenter, W5USJ,
