If I am reading the tea leaves properly, they have sufficient repair parts, for now anyway, but not enough for manufacturing any more of either radios.

This very likely means that Yaesu does not have a replacement radio for either, since this wasn't really planned, and that's a shame.

I assume you have connected the keyer paddle correctly to the 1/4" plug, tip and center ring to dit dah on the paddle and ground ring as common/ground.
Put the rig in CW mode.

And you want to set the FT-817 for break-in keying.? Thus when you touch the paddle levers, the radio will automatically go into transmit.
