Re: My FT-817 died :-(
I checked it with 2 SWR/Power meters. On 20 metres, it gives 500 milliwatt (full power selected on FT-817). External 13,8V power supply, no batteries inside. Rene PD1ALD power it suddenly,

Re: My FT-817 died :-(
Even without the battery pack, the power remains low. On HF, no power comes out (according to the FT-817's power bars: 0 bars!). On the other hand, my power supply shows about 1 A current. Rene

Re: My FT-817 died :-(
Rene, If you have an internal batery pack installed, try disconnecting it from the 817 and run with the 13.8 V DC supply only. If all is well, you may have a battery problem. Maybe overly

I talked with Robert at the phone # listed on the web site. He told me they do use a variable xformer & the rig looks at the primary as the counterpoise. I'm going to wait for the July QST article. I

My FT-817 died :-(
Tonight, my FT-817 died... RX on all bands is OK. All used antennas were ok. Now, suddenly, there is only between 0.5 and 1 Watt coming out of it, only on VHF and UHF. All other freqs: no

Re: QRP Autotuner
FWIW, I just got one (assembled) on Ebay. However, it seems not to like more than about 1 watt or so in my car, as it never stops on teh low SWR but continues to retune at 2.5 or 5 watts. Works OK

Re: power out
Hi Don: My new radio power output was 4.5w on 1.8/3.5, 4.0 w 7-28. Went into the alignment menu and now all bands 1.8-30 are 5.0 watts output. For some reason Yaesu sets them low! Haven't checked out
