817 vs 2020 vs ...?
While we wait for the first deliveries, I'm wondering whether there are any SGC 2020
users on this list, and what they find more (or less) attractive about the FT-817
compared to the 2020?

Re: Amplify output with 817
Hi,
Couldn't help but jump into this. I've had amps that use a 4CX250 and they
would be perfect candidates to run high power. The tube will cover HF/VHF/UHF
no problem. Since the tube is a

Re: Amplify output with 817
Actually, 100 watts is only slightly over 2 S-units stronger than 5 watts.
Paul, 5 watts should be fine unless you wish to talk to the lids on 75M, who won't pay any attention to you if you're not 40

Re: Amplify output with 817
I do all my operating at <5 watts and have over 230 DXCC contacts on SSB.
The problem on the road is having a good antenna.
I also think higher bands will be much more productive on QRP

Re: Amplify output with 817
But... he said he wants 5 watts on the road, and 100 watts at home. An
amplifier is a good solution

Re: Amplify output with 817
If you think of the FT-817 as a portable, battery operated rig, and are
satisfied with the 5 watt power limit (actually, 2 watts under battery
power) then you don't need or want an amplifier. After

Amplify output with 817
Hi,
Here's a question from a relatively new ham who travels a lot in and
out of the US.
Could I use some type of amplifier when using the 817 at home to get
more than 5 watts out? Any way to get

So many questions...
I have been looking at the 817 for a few weeks now, and really want
to get one. The are so many pluses to this radio-dynamo that are
appealing to my needs/wants. Besides being a good looking rig.

Re: Options available?
Is there any reason why we would not want to buy 1600 mAH NiMh AA batteries
instead? Sounds like more capacity

Re: Options available?
There are optional 2.3kHz and 500Hz filters available, as well
as a temperature controlled oscillator. The battery is a
9.6V/1000 mAh pack.
I'm not aware of a DSP option.

I asked this question earlier but never heard a peep back. Anyone aware of what options will be offered in connection with the 817? Battery, DSP, filters? Anyone looked into this? I saw the 817 at

How About an 817 night on the air?
Just got on this list a few days ago, AFTER I ordered the radio. Now
we should be getting our radios soon (not soon enought), why don't we
agree on an evening to get together and exchange radio

Re: Note to 220MHz fans
Hi Paul,
I have the tentec 6m transverter; will send a note of interest concerning 220. I
enjoy all band operations - 160 - 1200 and above, and have a pair of FT-736's which
i use for most of my VHF
