Hi Peter, I had the same problem on the FT817 and I solved it by replacing the Q3003 and Q3005 HSU277 diodes. I hope this helps

Mounting an FT817 is so easy it's hardly worth mentioning. Just use one or both cover screws located in four positions on the radio sides attached to angle brackets. Hardware stores carry angle braces
