Re: Frequency programming keypad
The FT817 mic socket can't be used to input frequency.
You could have a small adaptor connected to rear CAT port and powered from it and also plugged into the mic socket. It would need an MT8870 or

The IR remote control to CAT seems to be by KE8WO
Files.
It's for a Sony remote, but the source seems to be BASIC and the RC6 used by many IR remotes is well documented. I wrote SW to learn an RC6

Re: Frequency programming keypad
LOL
I understand you want a keyboard to enter freq in the field 'on-the-fly', others want you to pre-program the radio before going into the field.

Re: Frequency programming keypad
Yes. A keypad is small and a laptop is large, much heavier and expensive.

Re: Frequency programming keypad
Chirp doesn't sound like it would be very useful to me. If I understand

field.

CHIRP is not an "app".
It runs on Linux, Windows and AppleOS.

Re: Frequency programming keypad
Dave,
You will be much happier using CHIRP than a separate keyboard.? This free software allows you to assemble memory input like a spread sheet.? It allow for naming (limited by the FT817/818
