Re: 5 MHz wideband mod - is there some official Yaesu software.
It is a remarkable little radio - far less sophisticated than the modern portable SDR upstarts, but very capable and a lot of fun at a fraction of the price. Mine travelled all over the world with me,

Re: 5 MHz wideband mod - is there some official Yaesu software.
Hi Ken, Thanks for the info and link. I read that early ND models can also use the software mod. My 817ND dates from early 2004. I read that it was only around 2010 that the software mod was

Re: 5 MHz wideband mod - is there some official Yaesu software.
It's been a lot of years since I use the program but Widebander worked great. ( This is only for the non ND model.) FT-817 info and Widebander download /w instruction available

5 MHz wideband mod - is there some official Yaesu software.
My FT-817 is 19 years old and did not come with 5 MHz TX. I am aware of a software mod which I prefer rather than a hardware mod. Is there official Yaesu software for doing the mod? If not, what is

NiMH battery - loose inside radio - is there an official "spacer"?
The NiMH battery inside my FT-817 is loose. Is there an official spacer which is used to hold the NiMH battery firmly in place? I guess I could just use some foam? Maybe the foam on the battery

Ceramic filters failure - is this a problem with the FT-817?
I have read about the failure of Toko ceramic filter in various Yaesu radios. I have a Yaesu VX-7 and a VX-2200 commercial radio where the ceramic filters failed. I have recently acquired an FT-817

NiMH Battery - 2 positive and 2 negative wires - why?
The NiMH battery pack has 2 positive and 2 negative wires. Is this to spread the load given the thin wiring or are the two positive and 2 negative wires connected to different locations on the 817

Re: Looking for a CAT port Splitter Y cable for the 817
Are you sure you need a splitter? The ACC plug has TXD, RXD (to control the FT817), PTT-out and band data, all you need to interface an amplifier. The DATA plug has the signals you'd need if you run

Re: Looking for a CAT port Splitter Y cable for the 817
Tried ebay and Amazon... I followed a suggestion to try https:// technofix.co.uk ( http://technofix.co.uk ). They had a cable listed as " USB Cat & programming cable with linear PTT out for Yaesu

Re: Looking for a CAT port Splitter Y cable for the 817
Exactly!! Even in my best soldering days, those 6 and 8 pin mini dins were a cast-iron (so and so) to solder. Testing the pin-outs only showed if I got it right or not. If not, I had to start all over

Re: Looking for a CAT port Splitter Y cable for the 817
I remember that ten years ago every online cable maker had these "Y" cables for most radios at the time... not so much now.

Re: Looking for a CAT port Splitter Y cable for the 817
Some cities have 're-use' shops with boxes full of old cables. If you remember what the pinout was, you can often find a number of them for very cheap

Re: Looking for a CAT port Splitter Y cable for the 817
Pietro is correct. Xiegu is notorious for using 6 pin DIN cables. I got my 6 pin males on both ends from some old McIntosh cords and found many old PS-2 mouse cables had all six leads fed out. 8 pins

Re: Looking for a CAT port Splitter Y cable for the 817
Dear John, if your problem is only relative to how to solder minidin and you know how to build the cable you need, you can use the simple trick: buy a cable minidin to minidin and cut it. You will
