Power output instable
Ok. Let's see if anyone can give me a tip on where to look for my FT818. I have a strange behavior on the 2 meter band, the output power (indicated by the display) is not constant when pressing the

When I 1st got my FT-817 back in 2002, I was senior? field engineer for a global computer company in New England. I used to drive a Ford Escort hatchback, manual transmission. I think the only option

Re: FT-817 Replacement
QRP is a compromise/challenging way to operate. Mobile HF antennas are severe compromises. QRP into mobile HF antenna in a vehicle in motion is compromise^2. Parking a car and operating QRP with an

Re: Digital input sensitivity
Agree with Marco. Variable levels per mode. The original poster, Pietro, referred to VHF as a band, and I phrased my answer to basically say "It will do what you want it to do between HF and

Re: FT-817 Replacement
Good morning, I have run QRP mobile for contests. I have activated a rare county in the north Fl panhandle before. Worked from the front seat of my Jeep. A lot of compromise but yes, totally

Re: Digital input sensitivity
The dig input level is the same for all band and is controlled by DIG MIC setting (menu #25). I double checked with the internal memory map and it appear to have just one memory position for the each

Re: FT-817 Replacement
no idea, I don't even own a car so it's something I don't watch/care for. But... I do hear are some QRP activations made from the car. How much of a thing is or if it's a "local only" thing? no

Re: FT-817 Replacement
Mounting an FT817 is so easy it's hardly worth mentioning. Just use one or both cover screws located in four positions on the radio sides attached to angle brackets. Hardware stores carry angle braces

Re: FT-817 Replacement
The FTX-1 has a mobile mounting bracket? The FY-817/818 didn't... Are we acting like this is a radio people will be mounting to/under their car dashboards? Is QRP HF Mobile really a thing? Somehow

Re: FT-817 Replacement
Exactly ;-) I have seen the required bracket required to keep it in a useable position, not good at all. Who wants to carry that extra junk. Bad bad design. 73 de Andy

Exactly, Let apart what it can['t] do; this radio will be fine mounted on its bracket inside a car, or in a cabin table, probably even finer attached to a laptop. Radios with big touchscreens exposed

Re: FT-817 Replacement
I think it looks like a good little radio and I’m quite excited about it. The aftermarket will come up with protective rails/cages very quickly, in fact I will probably have detailed measurements

The FT-817/818 was an amazing collection of features and compromises, it's very unlikely it will be repeated any time soon. (As I recall it was a labor of love for one Yaesu Executive, he built the
