Re: Should you leave the battery pack installed when not in use?
You need to add a resistor in the PP adaptor to guarantee that the radio knows it is not connected to external power. If the radio thinks it is on external power, the CPU stays running to keep the

Re: Powersource for the FT818
I too run my 818 from my Astron 50M but if the radio is going to be dormant then I use the Windcamp door panel to turn the internal battery off. My YEasu handhelds too seem to have some minor current

Re: Powersource for the FT818
Hi! The PAE Kx33 is a constant voltage (CV) power supply and works perfectly when charging the internal battery using the built-in FT-817/818 charger. Cheers & 73, Howie / WA4PSC Pro Audio

Re: Should you leave the battery pack installed when not in use?
I personally remove if storing for more than 2 weeks. At 1 point I needed it and it had leaked to zero. I could only get it to power and charge by installing the alkaline pack to reboot it. Scott

Re: Powersource for the FT818
Hi Ken, Surprisingly, *just the transformer* for a true 4 A 14 V linear supply weighs in over 3 lbs and is larger than the entire PAE Kx33 supply including AC mains cable, weighing in at less than 1

Re: Powersource for the FT818
By "Old style" I assume you mean a linear power supply... "Clean" switching power supplies are available, but at such low current levels (5 amps in this example), a linear power supply would be small

Re: Powersource for the FT818
Pay attention to the noise that a power supply can generate, especially if you want work in HF. The better choice is a old style power supply, not a switching one. The important thing is always the

Re: Powersource for the FT818
That supply will be fine for the 818. One thing to think about is the output connections. That supply is more of a "bench supply" and you will have to build a cable to get power to the 818. Are you

I decided to perform the most basic alignment on the 817ND and set the bias on the PA block. I started from scratch and got them on spec, at 37.5mA each, 75mA total. The harmonic is still present but
