Sorry, I disagree. IMO its NOT a standard coil loaded Vertical.
Actualy the MP-1 is a monopole with a capacitive had. Think of it as an open
LC circuit. The capacitive hat is made by the Tube above the coil. The
telescopic part is only to enlarge the aktive area of the antenna. This type
of monopole is radiating the E field, and only very little H-filed. The
capacitor (the Tupe) is the radiating element. The high efficiency of this
antenna type is the result of the high radiation resistance you get from a
capacitive hat. The job of the coil is to compensate the reactance. About
this type of antenna you will find some excellebt theoretical articel on the
homepage of DL7PE .
The MP-1 electricaly is very similar to the Isotron antenna, the big plates
of the Isotron have been concerted to the tube.
DL7PE described this antenna types as monobanders to be homemade some time
ago. As far as I know, he never was in contact with Verne and vice versa,
but its definitive the same Antenna type.(the MP-1 is a super made
multiband-version of it)

It's a standard, coil-loaded vertical antenna, Richard. A tube with
contacts inside slides over the coil to adjust its inductance.
