Re: Accessorize me (longish)

Well, now for the fun part. I've followed the discussions (or is
that cuss'ins) on the various add-ons. What do you consider your 3
most important adds to the rig?

I know this can be dependent on planned usage so here her goes.
Planning on using it as 1) portable to my folks
mountain "retirement"
home, ditto the in-laws. Great trees to string a temp long wire
(thinking z-11 and some random length wire?)

Batteries?
Other antenna for walking around the country side? (my folks are in
the middle of nowhere!)
ETC?
If you plan on doing any CW, a CW filter is a must-have. I got the
Inrad 300 Hz and love it.

A tuner also sounds like a requirement for you. It certainly was for
me. Unless you plan to operate from inside the house on existing
antennas, it's a requirement. If you go for the Z-11, remember that
they recommend the optional 4:1 balun for random, long-wire, and end
fed antennas. I got the Emtech ZM-2 unit. It's not automatic, but
it's less expensive, came as a kit (fun for me, a chore for some),
and does not need the additional balun.

Those to me are the main things you need. I also have a case (from
Walmart for $7), some wire for portable antenna work (check out
), a portable CW key
(), and a homebrew PSK interface.

Good luck,
