I've used it for casual listening, mostly on 19m, and have found it
acceptable. I should comment that this has been mostly while mobile,
on occasions when I couldn't stir up a QSO on 20m or 17m. Despite
listening in AM mode, which seems to be much more susceptable to
ignition noise than SSB, I have not had any trouble with QRN. The
audio quality and volume have been adequate for listening to both news
and music. I haven't had a chance to listen to any utes, except for
the local airport control tower on VHF AM.

I know how well this radio transmits, but how is it as a sw(hf
milcom, broadcast band) receiver? I am going to be selling some ham
trxcvrs and wide band rcvrs at a hamfest tomorrow, and will be
looking to maybe purchase a 817. I enjoy QRP and would like a multi-
use radio to take on the go. The fact the 6, 2, and 440 ssb is
thrown
in is just a plus. Any replies will be greatly appreciated.
