Re: Fw: SSB Filter - Help!

Hi Don,

We have found that the SSB filter does give the 817 more kick in the
SSB mode. On both RX and TX, speech is more distinct and the average
RF power increases about 2 dB. This is both by measurement and on-
the-air comments for a number of stations now. It is interesting to
note that a number of positive comments on the 817 audio quality with
the stock filter have been received; however, when I flip in the SSB
filter, the reports are that the audio quality is even better. I
agree that the RX inprovement is best experienced with a good
external speaker.

The SSB filter does work. When using test equipment it is obvious
that a
difference has been made when switching the filter in and out. For
many
operators, the perception of a difference on receive is hard to
make. Try
using a larger external speaker and switch the filter in and out.
On
transmit, the filter also comes into play. You may have to ask a
friend to
report out on the difference. I believe the biggest significance
the SSB
filter plays is when using digital communication.
