Understand Bonnie. I think we can both agree that the guesstimates
becomes more of a SWAG as the size and diversity of the corporation
increases!

With all this continuing success of the FT-817, it will be a while
before the "Mk II" version comes out. It will be interesting to see
how the declining solar cycle will play into the decisions made by
Vertex in the next round of products. Notice that most have a life
cycle of about 5 years with them. The bottom of the cycle is about
then and QRP will be a bit more challenging. :-)

I'm constantly amazed that the ham radio equipment niche continues
to
produce many new designs.

I was originally replying to several posts which mused about how
much
was being made from manufacturing FT-817s. My guesstimate on what's
left after the bean counters was based solely upon personal
experience
as a manufacturing engineer and corporate executive in the consumer
electronics business. Could be off by a factor of 2 or so.
