Hi, Fr. Johnny. I'm very happy that you like your 817. I sent mine to W4RT to have him install his mods. Didn't want to attempt to do them myself. His services and products are great. I recommend him hightly. Ed, W4EOU (Anglican)

Well the rig FT-817 arrived! COOL COOL COOL first thing I did was do a
master reset then I went to 2M and programmed my repeater and PL keyed
up and.....it works!!! Thanks guys for the help now to do some
programming of HF, VHF, UHF and 6M frequencies. I am one very happy
camper 73 Johnny KD5LWU

Thanks Ron - Yes that is what has me puzzled also. He told me it TX
everywhere just fine at full power except the 2 Meter band and since I
suspected it used the same PA for all bands it almost has to be user
error, and/or bad settings, or as you said trying to set it out of band,
or something as simple as squelch setting too tight for a weak repeater.
It will be interesting to see what is actually happening when it
arrives, I thought the price was right so worth the effort even if I
wind up sending it back to Yaesu for repair (I hope not!) 73 Johnny

Johnny,
On the 2 meter band do not know why it would not work there and yet
work on others.
Some ideas might be to check the power setting when on 2 meters. Might
be set to low power. I assume it is working on 440 and 6 meters.
The 817 uses the same PA for all bands so don't think this would be
the problem. Might have an issue with the frequency, being out of band
of 144-148, but think one gets a TX ERROR if this is tried.
Wish I could say more.
My 817 has blown finals, don't tx on any band. I am going to order the
newer FET PA final board.

Hi Ron yes I understood that I was more concerned if the 817 might draw
more than the 2A draw as advertised at 5W as then I would have a
concern
as the power supply seems to max out at 2A appreciate the feedback
thanks. Any ideals on why it might not be TX on 2M but works well
on all
the other bands? 73 johnny

Johnny,
The 817 will draw the current it needs based on the voltage. Just
because the power supply is rated at 2 Amps does not mean
whatever you
power with it that 2 Amps will be drawn. When you try to power
something that wants more than 2 Amps at 12 volts then you have to
worry.

Subject: [FT817] homebrew power supply
Hi all - I have just built a double regulated 12V power supply that
puts out 1-12V at 2 Amps is running at 2 amps going to be a problem
with the FT-817?
Also I asked a question in my first post about the 817 not
transmitting on 2 meters has anybody had this problem? Or do you
think
it might simply be a user setup error since it TX fine on all other
bands?
