Feeling at least partially responsible for this thread I feel that I
should chime in.
First of all, there IS a difference between having to QSO and
wanting to QSO. Bonnie, you touched on this and you are right, but the
word expedition makes all the difference. I'm a member of the
Anchorage radio club and we still send members out to the various
Iditarod checkpoints every year to provide comm support, (you are all
invited to come help out of course). So when traffic has to be passed
it's QRO and anything goes. Last year we actually used UO-14 and HT's
(with ducks)when the bands gave out.
Second, nobody gets serious about QRP without getting serious about
their antenna. I was just thinking about something that would me check
into the local nets when I was out and about, even if it is by relay.
My expedition unit is a Ten Tec Scout, MFJ tuner, and dipole.
Mmmmmmm, 50 watts of comfort!
