Re: MFJ/W&S/Sandpiper Aerials

I use an 80M version of the Sandpiper plug in. I use it in all modes
from mobile to base. It's a great antenna. I believe that the plug in
is bigger than the ATX. When mobile I use about 3 foot of extension on
the base to get the coil clear of the car's boot (trunk). Using this I
have worked Trinidad from the center of England on the 817 using just
5 watts, and this was REAL mobile... Driving along the road!
The plug in comes with both telescopic and mobile whips.

Sandpiper also make the MV10. This is a "Stick in the ground"
multiband antenna. It covers most bands from 2mtrs to top band. 2 mtrs
is a bit of a fudge as it's just a fluke that a 1/4 wave on 6M is a
5/8 on 2 :)

The MV10 will not break any records (it's only 13 feet high when top
band is used) but it works great given it's size. You don't need to
use all the bands if you don't want, so setting up can be really
quick. A counterpoise REALLY helps on the lower bands, but on the high
bands it works great without.

Sandpiper have really got the portable scene sorted out. Most of their
antennas are designed for /P operation and are easily set up and
collapse back down well for carrying.
