Re: Help please ... FT817ND not getting power from rear connector, ok on battery

I had a strange occurrence with mine. There is a chip cap right near the connector on the pc board that blew up. It took out the trace from the connector. The chip cap was only rated at 16 volts, on the 13.8 volt line. This doesn't look like enough leeway in voltage to me. I repaired the pc board trace and put in a chip cap rated at 25 volts.

The DC connector is a definite weak point. There is a very thin PCB track which can fracture. Also, frequently taking the plug out and back in again can loosen the solder joints from the socket to the PCB. I had this problem a while ago.
Unless you are REALLY skilled with the iron (which I’m not!!) it’s a job for the professionals. Then when it’s been repaired, fit the rig with the type specific Power Poles. That way, you can disconnect the PPs as often as you like, as the PP connector stays permanently attached.
Yaesu UK did mine for a very reasonable price.

I'm going to go with the help desk first question: Did you check that menu setting 7 is set to the rear connector?

Seeking help from the brain trust, thanks.
Rig not getting power thru rear connector, runs ok on battery. Have tried multiple plugs, cables, power sources, etc. Port is clear (no fragment of plug inside).
Visual inspection under hood does not reveal any obvious (to me) defect.
Appreciate suggestions, guidance, magic wands, etc ;-)
Thanks all and best 73.
