I have an 817, KX1 and KX3. ?I like them all, but if I had to pick just one as a "desert island" rig...I think I'd keep the 817 because of it's extended band coverage... even though it is missing 60 meters. ?I'm not interested in 60, so that does not bother me. ?Truth be known, most of the time I use my KX3 for HF operating. ?It would be a tough choice just to pick one and the KX3 would be a close second... or possibly the winner, based on it's receiver and roofing filter.
The 817 is really a "does it all" rig.. multi-mode, multi-band, and only needs a 10 volt power supply for five watts.
