Re: FT-818ND Battery Life?

Hi

I haven't read the responses to your post yet, but a suggestion, would be to download CHIRP a free software package

that will allow you to program your new rig on the PC and download them to the rig in one go. Also available is Flrig and

Fldigi, two of several software free to download that will allow rig control and decoding of digital communication. A

Google search should find those to begin with.

I've had my original FT817 since 2003, well actually this is the second one but who is counting. I love this rig.

Short Version:??the manual says the AA battery pack is supposed to last around 5 hours; that prediction was spot on for me.? It was on VHF/UHF, receive only, with squelch broken open about half the time.? Sorry, I don't have INTEL on the rechargeable pack (yet).

TMI version:? ?I'm new here, too.? Joined the group when I bought my Dayton Hamvention sale FT-818ND... it was a $575 sale price I couldn't resist.? Sat down to learn about this radio with the manual... GOOD GRIEF!!!? This is about the most complicated radio on the planet to set up and operate!? Push one button twice, raise your left foot, then spin a dial while singing "Yankee Doodle" and poke a few more buttons, genuflect toward Mecca three times, and maybe it'll store a memory.? This is a far cry from the simplicity and convenience of my trusty Atlas 210x! Anyway, I've used the AA battery pack, and it lasted a little over 5 hours.? I've been playing with the rechargeable battery pack for a few days now (receive only) and it's not dead yet.
