The PA is available as a module and is pretty easy to replace, apart from
soldering a few leads you just need to setup the bias with a meter. Last time i
checked here in the UK the board cost ?38 from Yaesu UK and so not an expensive
item and easy to get hold of.
?
$400 sounds pretty crazy so must have included some big ticket items,
Alignment is pretty easy if you have the gear.
I recently purchased a ¡°working¡± older 817 at a ham swap, and
on testing it has no RF output. I have downloaded the service manual, but I
wonder if anyone can tell me what Yaesu charges these days to replace the final
transistors? I spoke to a guy recently who was charged over $400, including some
realignment. Ouch!
Also can someone please point me to a source of the final
replacement boards?
It could be something minor, I know, but nobody answers the
phone at Yeasu when I called Customer service the last 2x. This is the last
radio I will buy at a swap with the expectation that it works! I have not lifted
the lid, yet.
