Go to your local hardware store and find some small rubber or nylon washers/spacers. Large enough I.D. to go around button. Stack them thick enough to end up flush with top of button. Use whatever appropriate adhesive to hold them. I did the same with my first MFJ 259 because it had the same problem. That eliminated the inadvertently pushed power button.

Is there a good way to ensure the Z-817 doesn't accidentally have its button pressed and flatten its batteries whilst it is in the backpack?

I took mine out to use it the other day and the batteries were flat, so I think the button must have been pressed repeatedly in the rucksack.

Any ideas?
